Of >course, it's possible there are only three MOCs, plus Gwena. I think it's been said (by Paul) that there are four grove-born Monarch's Own Companions that rotate the job. Teren, in Talia's Orientation class, explains that the only Grove-born Companions (other than the original Companions who came to Baron Valdemar) are the Monarch's Own Companions, who are always stallions. He doesn't seem to realize that they're the same four Companions. We've seen two of them, Rolan and Taver, and we've seen them each in two separate incarnations. I think we just haven't seen the other two. I think Gwena is an entirely new breed of Companion, as she is going to be Companion to the first Herald-Mage since Vanyel. They keep talking about how Gwena is young for a Companion, even though she's Grove-born, which I think means that this is her first incarnation. It's interesting, in that in some ways it implies that the position of Monarch's Own is more important, or at least needs more help, than the Monarch itself. That is, only people with very great need are Chosen by Grove-born Companions: the first Herald-Mage in several thousand years, and the Monarch's Own. I suppose the king or queen has the MO, so the MO has the MOC. (Selenay's Companion, by the way, is Caryo.) The correct (new) address is audi1-+AT+-home.com And one of the reasons why I'll answer it on-list :). Vanyel (the list-server) keeps track of everyone due to their e-mail address. Due to that, if one person has two e-mail addresses, they are going to be treated as two separate individuals. You will have to first unsubscribe the old address by sending an e-mail to listproc-+AT+-herald.co.uk . In the body of the message, type out unsubscribe mercedes-lackey After this, switch over to your new address and send an e-mail to listproc-+AT+-herald.co.uk once more, and have a body message of subscribe mercedes-lackey Where the name is what you would like to be known by to Vanyel. Now, a second option is to have a redirectional e-mail, such as what I do. My Yahoo address has been in effect for a few years, and all I need to do is to change where it forwards to instead of having to move accounts to and fro with various e-mail lists. Not to mention that your friends only need remember one address ;). There are other Groveborn Companions than the four which act as Monarch's Own. When Valdemar was first enstated, GC were the only things that were around for Heralds to be Companioned with. The assumption is that there are only four "reocurring" GC within the kingdom's history. The rest are past Heralds instead of Great Spirits. > I know that there is not a whole lot of conversation in this e-mail but > these are some points that I was hoping to get other's opinions on.
