I think I've listened to it enough now to give it a reasonable review (though hardly unbiased, I love virtually every song on there!). I just got Shadowstalker last week. I listened to it once, and wasn't sure I liked it. But after listening to it a few times, I have to say it really grows on you. Shadowstalker is a darker, quieter group of songs than HH&H. One of the things I really liked about HH&H are the few upbeat, light, even comic songs. But both are excellent, and somehow make the books come to even greater life. I highly recommend both. BTW, I strongly recommend shelling out the extra bucks for CD. I bought two tapes from Firebird, HH&H as well as Tempest's Serrated Edge (Also really awesome!) The Serrated Edge tape is poor quality - I don't mean the music or the recording quality, I mean the physical tape itself! Either buy the CDs, or make backups of the tapes when you buy them. I'm not saying this is a trend with Firebird, since I've only bought 2 tapes from them. It could be I got the one bad tape they issued. Who knows. Just kind of thought I'd mention it. Anyway, I now have 1 Tempest tape, and 1 CD. Serrated Edge is in my opinion much better than Surfing to Mecca, but I like the more traditional music. Tam Lin is awesome!! Check it out! The Firecat seems to help out more than just Karal, and reports back to the High Priestess, etc. It seems less of a bond and more of a "marriage of convenience". In other words, when the need for Karal to have the advice of a Firecat diminishes, perhaps the Firecat will go away? I'm not sure about this at all, but there just doesn't seem to be a bond between these two. My reply is........isn't that just like a cat?
