I'm pretty sure someone does, somewhere - something along the lines of going easy on Gwena since she has no _human_ experience to guide her; the implication being that at least some other companions *do* (firsthand or otherwise). -- _|_ / | Jerry Cullingford jc-+AT+-crosfield.co.uk (Work) \_|_ jc-+AT+-selune.demon.co.uk (Home) \__/ Hemel Hempstead, UK jerry-+AT+-shell.portal.com (alternate) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 May 1995 14:56:27 EST From: "Lisa" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: I'm new at this!! Hmmmm. You may be right. It's been a while since I read the Winds trilogy. If it is there, it has to be where Elspeth meets Vanyel in the Forest of Sorrows. If he does say this, it will only confirm Elspeth's and all the other Heralds' perceptions about the Companions. After all, if Gwena is Grove Born, she really shouldn't have any human experience. It leaves it open, however, that other Companions _DO_ have human experience, and that's another can of worms for the Heralds. Since I don't have the books with me at school, someone else will have to check the specifics. Since I don't have the books with me >at school, someone else will have to check the specifics. As a new Grove-born Companion, unlike Rolan whose been among humans for awhile and unlike other natural born Companions who may/may not be reincarnated Heralds, Gwena has little human experience either first hand since she is actually younger than Elspeth or from a previous life. Just thinking about numbers here, I wonder how many Companions would be reincarnated Heralds....eventually there would just be too many Companions if many Heralds kept coming back as Companions particular considering how understaffed the Collegium was- that there was always a need for more Heralds. Re: Vanyel's choices for his afterlife....My recollections about Vanyel discussing this mentioned that he and Yfandes had different choices than other Heralds when they died. If I remember properly, I thought that he was a bit fuzzy about what their particular choices were other than their remaining to guard Sorrows or to go on to their rest- maybe one of the others was to return as Companions. - Helen ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 May 1995 20:03:15 -0400 From: MaryKite-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Dead list revival... He never says that Gwena was never human, but if you will remember correctly he said "for most Heralds who pass on they are given two choices. I was given a third." This was said at the ending of the Last Herald Mage Trilogy in the Magic's Price book when Stef is about to suicide.
