I'd like to put in another vote for "The Deed of Paksennarion" Three book trilogy. If you liked the military aspects and/or Eddings Elenium this might be one to try. For Mind Magic I can't think of another author I like more than Katherine Kurtz (Misty excluded, of course). Love her Deryni books. There are a couple of dedicated newsgroups so I won't say anymore about her. I wouldn't recommend starting on the other books in this world, until you've read "The Deed ..." as I found they're really slow going.
