    My interpertation was there was no difference.  The experience just 
Exhausted the mage whenever she/he gates.  Does that make sense?

HI!
Now that I have your undivided attention, here is that receipe that I
mentioned.

Chocolate Truffle Loaf
2 cups heavy cream divided
3 egg yolks
16 squares 1 ounce each semi sweet chocolate
1/2 cup light or dark corn syrup
1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Line 9 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 2 3/4 inch loaf pan with plastic wrap.  In small bowl,
mix 1/2 cup cream with egg yolks.  In large saucepan, combine chocolate, corn
syrup, and margarine; stir over medium heat until melted.  Cook 3 min over
medium heat stirring constantly.  Cool to room temperature.  In smal bowl
with mixer at medium speed beat 1 1/2 cups cream, sugar and vanilla until
soft peaks form. Gently fold into choclate mixture just until combined.  Pour
into prepared pan cover with plastic wrap.  Refrigerate over night or chill 3
hours in freezer.

There is a receipe for a Raspberry Sauce, unfortunately I am unable to find
it.  Anne -+AT+- aol said she used a raspberry sauce from a jar and it was good.

This receipe came from a book called, _Great American Brand Name Cookbook_,
the ISBN is 1561737984.

OK< you all asked for it so here it goes.  Some notes before I start.
 Challenged, I am assuming that it refers to the fact that someone somewhere
was not happy and tried to get it removed.  Removed, Banned, Rejected,Moved,
Burned are all self-explanatory.

1.)  BLOODLINE, Sidney Sheldon, Challenged - Abingdon VA (1980);
Elizabethton, TN(1981).

2.)  CARRIE, Stephen King, Considered to be "trash" that is especially
harmful for "younger girls".  Challenged, Clark High School Lobrary, Las
Vegas, NV (1975). Placed on special closed shelf, Vergennes, VT, Union High
School LIbrary (1978).  Removed West Lyon Community School Library, Larchwood
Iowa (1987).

3.)  CATCH -22, Joseph Heller, Considered "dangerous" because of
objectionable language.  Banned Strongsville, OH (1972 - overturned 1976).
 Challenged, Dallas, TX Independent School District High School Libraries
(1974), Snoqualmie, WA (1979).

4.)  CATCHER IN THE RYE, J.D. Salinger, Considered "dangerous" because of
vulgarity, occultism, violence and sexual content.  Banned, Freeport High
School, DeFuniak Springs, FL (1985).  Removed, Issaquah, WA optional high
school reading list (1978), Required reading list Middleville, MI (1979),
Jackson-Milton school libraries, North Jackson, OH (1980), Anniston, AL High
School Libraries (1982 - later reinstated), Morris, Manitoba, Challenged,
Libby MT High School (1983).

5.)  CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, Roald Dahl, Condsidered to "espouse a
poor philosphy of life"  Removed, (from a locked refernce collection) -
Boulder, CO Public Library (1988).

6.)  CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR, Jean Auel, Considered "vulgar, profane, sexuallt
explicit".  The Earth Children's Series by Jean Auel, has been cahllenged by
numerous public libraires.  In defense of her books, Auel writes, "If a few
people have the power to censor the reading material available to asult
readers in public libraries, it won't stop most people from reading the books
they want to read.  This is, after all, the United States of America, not
Russia.

7.)  CLOCKWORK ORANGE, Anthony Burgess, "Objectionable" language sparked
opposition the this novel.  Removed, Westport, MA High School classrooms
(1977), Aurrora, CO High School classrooms (1976), Anniston, AL High School
Libraries (1982 - later reinstated).

8.)  THE COLOR PURPLE, Alice Walker, Considered inappropiate for high school
students because of its "troubling ideas about race relations, man's
relationship to God, African history and human sexuality.

9.)  CUJO, Stephen King, Profanity and strong sexual content cited as reasons
for opposition.  Banned, Wahshington County, AL Board of Education (1985),
Challenged, Rankin County, MS School District (1984), Removed, Bradford, NY
School Library (1985), Rejected, (for purchase) Hayward, CA school trustees,
(1985).

10.)  DEATH OF A SALESMAN, Arthur Miller, Profanity cited as reason for
opposition. Banned, Spring Valley Community High School, French Lickk, IN
(1981).  Cahllenged, Dallas, TX Independent School District High School
libraries, (1974).

I think that I will do my best to send off 10 a day until I work through the
lists that I have.
I will do my best to let you all know when Waldenbooks does their thing for
banned books week.  Usually in the spring or fall.  Can't remember.  Sorry.

Sorry, but my mailer keeps crashing every time I try to include text from 
other people's messages, so I can't quote the relevant questions, but here are 
a couple of quotes on the subject (I'm re-reading the Kethry/Tarma series at 
the moment.).  Emphasis in both quotes is my own.

Oathbound, p 73-4, SFBC hardcover, Kethry speaking to Tarma :
"Gervase, being a reptile, and being a Pelagir changeling as well, lived three 
times the span of a normal sorcerer, AND WE ARE NOTORIOUSLY LONG-LIVED."

BTS, SFBC hardcover, pg48, from Kero's POV, speaking of Kethry:
"Except for her hair, she showed few signs of age; she was as slim and erect 
in her blue velvet gown as any girl, and moved gracefully, if slowly.  There 
were a few crow's-feet around her eyes, concentration-lines on her brow, and 
smile-lines at either corner of her mouth, but otherwise her face was 
unwrinkled.  SHE WAS EXACTLY AS KETHRY REMEMBERED HER-- which was eerie.  She 
should have shown *some* signs of increasing age...."

That said, I really don't think it likely Kethry will go out adventuring 
anymore.  First, because she had neither Tarma nor Need to protect her from 
physical attacks, and second, because she probably wants to stay close to home 
to keep an eye on Baron Reichert, and the rest of Lordan's scheming in-laws.  
It would be nice to hear more about her, though...

This may be a stupid question, but ...

If Kethry took it upon herself to have lots of children so Tarma's clan 
could start anew (even magicing herself so she could have kids for a 
longer period of time) wouldn't her children be interbreeding and be 
genetically screwed up after a few generations?  Does anybody remember 
reading anything about some other women and  men taking part in this 
regeneration project?  I don't.

>From what I remember, it would be something like Kethry/Tarma's 
blonde-hair, green-eyed kids marrying typical Shin'a'in who had wandered 
into the clan (like orphans, or young wanderers who decided that they 
wanted to settle down).  That was why T and K had to go and make a good 
name for the Talesdrin (sp?) so that they didn't attract losers and 
low-lifes but rather respectable young peopl (it was in Oathbound I think)

AIUI, an adept can keep the body fit and healthy, so that it attains its 
maximum possible age, which even for non-mages in this world, 
is around the 120-130 mark. (A lady appeared on Central News t'other night 
who had celebrated her 105th birthday with a trip on Concorde; her 101st 
birthday trip had been in a hot-air balloon. She looked a somewhat 
fragile 70).

You bet.  The idea was that Kethry would provide the core, which she did.
Seven kids, I think.  Due to the reputation that Tarma and Kethry had built
up (in the Oath books), seconds, thirds, and fourth kids from other clans
would flock to their banner.  In other words, Kethry's kids are the clan,
they marry others from other clans, as well as other young adults from
other clans being adopted to Talesedrin and marrying each other.  For some
reason, there had to be some "pure" clan members, these being Kethry's
kids.  Even though she was adopted to the clan, her kids were sort of
born clan members.  So as far as an inbreeding problem, I don't think
that existed.  But as far as the actual mechanism of why Kethry had to
produce kids, and then others can be adopted into the clan. . . well,
I'm still not totally clear on that.

The clan itself adopted others who wanted to change clans along with
Kethrey's children as being the mainstream who continued to have children of
their own.  This is how the clan continued..not just Kethrey's children.
