I only skimmed over this post. According to Mel, something happened, I can't say that I remember exactly what she told me.........but she can in all her wonderfullness post it to the list. Ok, now, where do I start, I apologize again. But let me just say that I saw red as I read this. I still do after reading several times. I think that it's because some people think that they are so morally above others that their way is the only way, (I knew I would be able to tie this into ML somehow). In regards to being gay and sinning. I have to completely disagree only for the simple fact that we are all made in our creators image! Whether that be male, female, straight, gay, Afro-American, Caucasain etc. Not to mention the fact that we are all here for a purpose that no one knows about. And the creator made no junk! Why people are so worried about what goes on in other peoples bedrooms, houses, and lives is beyond me! Finally I would like to just say it is imperative to keep the government out of our bedrooms and out of woman's womb's. Sarah, I can't even begin to apologize enough to you. I hope that I did not offend you and if I did, let's take it up privately. As with anyone else who feels for a lengther discussion,. I also recognize that while this nation is perhaps mostly Christian(depending upon how you limit the term), there is value in tolerance. Jesus was very accepting of those that were "undesireable" in his society, and clearly taught forgiveness and love even in the face of overt sin. I find that using the Gov't to "force" people to do the right thing when there is not a good consensus and not an obvious harm is ineffective. (see speed limits and prohibition for examples) Within the church, however, I take a very different track. The church must be willing to offer mercy and forgiveness, but must be very careful to recognize sin for what it is. Basically mercy yes, acceptance, no. > Or worry that if you tell other folk, they might misunderstand > and never come to God because they thought of you as 'just like > everyone else' and closed their minds to hearing? Yes, I am often misunderstood. I keep trying to communicate more effectively, though, so hopefully this is getting better. I find that if I take a hard line stance (outlaw homosexuality! :), my witness is even less understood or appreciated. > That's sorta the problem I have. > Its just nice too know I'm not going entirely mad :) Ditto! :) > -+AT+-If you find in your walk with Jesus that you are to completely allow > -+AT+-forces outside of your camp to control questions like the above, I > -+AT+-hope that you don't end up outside of the Gov'ts protection as a result. > > -+AT+-It has happened before, ask your local Rabbi for a history lesson if > -+AT+-you haven't heard. > > -+AT+-If it happens again, (I believe it is happening now to 1.5 million or so > -+AT+-babies a year in this country) ask yourself about the "inalienable rights" > -+AT+-you enjoy without defense... > > =================================================== > Sarah sarah-+AT+-eskimo.com > =================================================== > My picture of the world is of masses of people extending gifts to other > people, doing favors -- but nobody keeping score. -- Dr. Whitsett > =================================================== A nice picture. I've just finished re-reading Arrow's Fall for the zillionth time, and I noticed something that never really struck me before (on p. 227, paperback, 1st printing). It happens when Dirk is finally recovering from the strain of Fetching Talia, and, since the Healer assigned to his case has decided to keep him in the dark, and not just for his reaction headache ;-), regarding Talia's condition, Dirk is understandably quite anxious. It says at that point that, in desperation, he resorts to contacting GWENA....Elspeth's companion, and not his own Ahrodie,....and that even Gwena is confused as to what is really happening with Talia. That's when he enlists the help of the page-boy Robin to get to Talia. I find it rather strange that he would, or ,for that matter, could -at least on his own, contact another Herald's Companion, don't you think? It was just an interesting observation...not much for discussion but interesting nonetheless. It could almost be an editing mistake, but it's hard to tell. Happy reading to all.... Helen Not much longer until Storm Warning is out in paperback as well as the new Storm Rising (?) here in the US ... :-) Helen h-wilfehrt-+AT+-nwu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 1995 06:45:32 -0400 (EDT) From: Gyrfalcon To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: An interesting scene in Arrow's Fall Message-ID: > It says at that point that, in desperation, he resorts to contacting > GWENA....Elspeth's companion, and not his own Ahrodie,....and that even > Gwena is confused as to what is really happening with Talia. That's when > he enlists the help of the page-boy Robin to get to Talia. Why do I have the feeling that it was because the Healers know what the companion-herald bond is, and that they also know that Dirk would ask Ahrodie (sp?) first, so they either kept her in the dark or asked her to not tell Dirk. Devan was quite capable of doing this in order to force Dirk out into the open. Dirk probally knew that Ahrodie wasn't going to help him, so he turned to Gwena. What my question is is why didn't he go and ask Rolan? He, if any of the companions would know, would be the one to answer about his Chosen. Again it may be Devan's manipulations, and it is likely since he thought it necessary to force Dirk and Talia's Lifebond out. --Gyrfalcon =======================msowers-+AT+-menger.eecs.stevens-tech.edu=================== Magic still exists. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Maybe not so strange, after all - if he's got mindspeech, and can communicate with his own companion, then it would maybe be more surprising if he couldn't talk to the others - probably not as a regular thing, if they don't usually answer back, and it might not be a polite thing to do - but if he's desperate, Gwena's probably the most likely one to try. Dirk doesn't know, so his companion isn't likely to, Rolan is known to be grove-born, and so asking him is pushing things a bit - but Elspeth is fairly likely to know, so asking Gwena seems reasonable. Well, reasonable if you're desperate, anyway :-) -Jerry -- _|_ / | Jerry Cullingford jc-+AT+-crosfield.co.uk (Work) \_|_ jc-+AT+-selune.demon.co.uk (Home) \__/ Hemel Hempstead, UK jerry-+AT+-shell.portal.com (alternate) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Aug 1995 10:07:31 -0400 From: nomib-+AT+-chem.psu.edu (Naomi) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Herald's exam - reposted by request Message-ID: <199508031407.KAA19988-+AT+-portal.chem.psu.edu> Speaking of reposts, could whoever suggested the books by DeLint please repost the book suggestions? >AND, for everybody who missed it last time (yes, I'm the heretix that wrote >this)..... > >HERALDRY FINAL > >(Time : 3 hours.
