If so, why has no one written a review of it? Is it bad? (ok, let me rephrase that: Is it not as good as her really good novels?). In other words, should I buy the book, or go to the library? Comment/question: A while back, there were some comments that ML has some of the same themes within her different trilogies/books-from- different-universes (What the heck are these different bunch of books called anyways??). Has anyone else noticed that the situation that Robin and kestrel were in was similar to Tarma and Keth's fight, with the you're-smothering-me-we're-supposed-to-be-equal-partners argument (but with consequences not as dire)? I also noticed that she uses some of the same phrases (noticed it since I ORIGINALLY thought it was distinctive, until I saw it again!) in describing a tall person affectionately: "Cloud-scraper"! Finally, some recent posts have been regarding shields and the amount of energy required to maintain/strengthen them. I've always thought of the shields as those that protect the Enterprise (sorry to bring Sci-fi into the discussion!), where one had a certain basal amount going to the shields. When under attack, if the shields began to erode "Shields holding at 30%, Captain", one would have to pour more energy to make sure that they didn't disintegrate totally.. I also agree with whoever postedthat they thought physical shields requried more energy. Although I'm no physicist, I would think taht like illusions (like someone said) magical shields are just transmuted forms of what was there initially, whereas, physical are kinda created (thus one needs energy to create the shield foundation, then more to transmute). For some reason, I think of magical shields as already there.... I didn't like it. I didn't like it so much that I'm doubting if I'll ever buy another book in that series. If I do, it'll be the paperback, and only for the sake of completeness. IMO the series has gone downhill in a major way since the first book, and I really can't put my finger on why. I found BV3 to take an extremely long time to get going, and once it did there weren't any real surprises. It also seemed like ML got to the end, realized she didn't have a villain, and decided to just pick some guy who hadn't really been mentioned much in the book and made _him_ the villain. We've discussed this more than a few times in Compuserve's Fantasy Lit forum, and folks there seem to be of the general opinion that for the last couple years ML just seems to be churning books out so fast that the quality is starting to suffer. Perhaps she needs to take a break for a while? (Oh horrors for us fans! ) OK folks, flame away!
