I must admit that Michener's "Hawaii" did that - as did "THe Hunt for Red October" and some early Heilin - (I read his books 35 years ago!!!) There are a few others. But one of my standards for great fiction is the degree to which the author manages to make the reader one with the story - the characters - the world - LaCKEY DOES THAT AS NO OTHER else's up with - so please forgive if I am far behind the "conversatu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Aug 1995 20:21:20 -0500 (CDT) From: SUE DOODY To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Dead to the World (was Re: Valdamar to Music) Message-ID: <01HU2QWWI3MW91VXDT-+AT+-uni.edu> Please ecuse the earlier truncated post - I will get the compatibility glitches solved!!!!! ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 107 *********************************
