This has never happened to me at a Barnes and Noble anywhere, but the cure is simple: go to any smaller bookstore (there are *lots* in NYC) and ask them to order it if they don't have it. This means you'll have to wait a week to get it, but as long as it's in print, you should be able to get it. -jenneke I *am* family. How could I not have family values? It shouldn't be that hard to find her older books. I don't know of any specific bookstores in NYC, but since she is a very popular author larger bookstores should have most of her books. If not, look for a bookstore specializing in fantasy/science fiction. I know that the Borders in center city Philly had all her books (or they did two years ago) I generally open up the yellow pages and call up the area bookstores and ask when I am looking for a specific book. If they don't have it, it usually can be ordered. The book differs from the Jacket description in some fairly significant ways. I'll also say that I wish I had Storm Breaking! :) -- File: STORM_RISING.DESC -- STORM RISING: With STORM WARNING, the first volume of the /Mage Storms/ trilogy, best-selling author Mercedes Lackey returned readers to a Valdemar where the dire threat of war with the powerful, sorcerous Eastern Empire had forced the kingdom of Valdemar into an uneasy coalition with its traditional enemy, the neighboring kingdom of Karse. Now, in STORM RISING, mysterious magestorms are wreaking havoc on Valdemar, Karse and all the kingdoms of the West, plaguing these lands not only with disastrous earthquakes, monsoons, and ice storms, but also with venonmous magical constructs - terrifying creatures out of nightmare. Both Valdemar's Heralds and Karse's Sunpriests struggle to marshal their combined magical resources to protect their realms from these devastating, spellfueled onslaughts. But as the situation becomes bleaker and bleaker, the still fragile alliance between these long-hostile lands begins to fray. And when Karal, the young Karsite envoy to the court of Valdemar, is wwrongly accused of collusion with the enemy, only the personal intervention of Solaris, the High Priestess and ruler of Karse, can defuse what is rapidly becomeing a dangerously explosive situation. But Solaris also confirms the worst fears of the Heralds - that these storms do not come from the Eastern Empire, but from a completely unknown source. And unless Valdemar and Karse can locate and destroy the creator of the storms, they may see their entire world demolished in a final magical holocaust. Arn't there any really good "used" bookstores in the NYC area? I would assume so... but, what the heck... I'm in Texas. We have a chain called Half-Priced Books that always carries a decent supply of paperback Misty books. That's where I picked up my entire back issue collection. While not in NYC there is a used bookstore in Hoboken that sometimes carries Misty's books, the only problem is that new books come in about 2-3 times a week and leave more often than that. I've seen her books last on the shelves for as much as a week, and as little as an hour. It's right on Washington street, between 7th and 8th aves, net to Benny's Pizza. (Bets pizza I've ever eaten.)
