When Stef is talking to Skif and Nyara about lifebonding in Winds of Fury, when Vanyel pulled them all to the Forest of Sorrows, it occurred to me that, a lifebond is very much like the Companion-Herald bond as well (this came from a comment made a couple of pages earlier by Elspeth), because: Stef states that : "...It has far more to do with compatiblity than love...." Though with the Companion-Herald bond there is love as well, which Stef also goes on to comment about saying that he have Vanyel also have a love bond due to the differences between them. "..When you are lifebonded, your choices are limited to doing things you BOTH want, because if your lifebond is unhappy, so are you..." Examples: When Tylendel knows something is up with Vanyel and vice versa Similar with Dirk and Talia Plus you also have Yfandes feeling Van's pain when he has to Gate And the Herald (I can't remember his name) who is whipping Ghost and almost sends his Companion catatonic.. "... It takes two very strong, well-established personalities to make a lifebonded pair work, because if one is passive, he'll be eaten alive by the other...' This was the main trigger for the reason I came up with the relationship between the two different types of bonding, because I remembered what Elspeth commented on earlier when Vanyel mentions something about his Aunt Savil: "...Considering what the Herald-Chronicler of the time had to say about Vanyel's formidable aunt, Herald Savil, Elspeth had to chuckle a little about that. She had apparently been a match for Kerowyn..." So, that may have been a reason that Savil was 'reincarnated' as Kero's Companion Sayvel, because she had the only personality that wouldn't be dominated by Kerowyn's. These are just a couple of thoughts that I came up with, I don't know if they are true or not, but it just seemed interesting to note the similarities =) I am not sure if I made myself clear, cause my brain is a bit slow today -grin- I need some sleep =) But anyway.. As far as Storm Rising is concerned, I went to Borders and they had it! I spent the whole weekend on it, and it is awesome! I won't say anymore at this time. So now I rerank my Velgaarth books, from favorite to least, with each trilogy counting as a "book" for this purpose: By the Sword Last Herald Mage Storm Arrows Vows & Honor Gryphons Winds I'm not sure why, but the Winds books are my least favorite to reread. It just didn't really grip me very much. The Gryphon books are okay so far, but the villain in White Gryphon was so pathetic that I just wasn't impressed by the "conflict". After all, that's one of the keys to a story, there's a conflict. If the conflict is involved in whether you can have jam or peanut butter on your bread, it just doesn't grab you. You just can't beat the LHM books for emotional content. Although I seldom read the later third of the third book (Vanyel's rape) etc, every time I reread the LHM books I'm sobbing for hours. Anyway, just my $1 worth. Anyone else want to try ranking the books this way? I know we've tried this before, but we've always looked at Misty books in general, and each individual books. What about just the Velgaarth books, and treating each series as one "book"? Did I leave out any books? StarWolf (whose now bought 2 hardcovers in just 2 weeks and is utterly broke, but desperately wants to buy the Excalibur Trade paperback. Life's rough, isn't it?) --------------------------------- >>On another note, definitely off-topic: >> >>Since I couldn't find Storm Rising a few days ago, I picked up Belgarath >>the Sorcerer by Eddings.
