The enemy 'yes', evil 'no'. I don't know if I like him. I don't know enough about him yet. I do believe I'm beginning to understand him and he does seem more sympathetic than most enemies. I kind of like this change of pace. I was getting a little tired of every enemy being crazy with power and whatnot. Tremane does seem to have a sense(sp) of honor and a feeling that he is doing good. I will be interested in seeing how that developes in Storm Rising. Now all I have to do is wait a year for it to come out in paperback.***HUGE SIGH*** Oh well, back to the salt mines. Take Kris for an example: admittedly, he was lonely as a child, but I'm not sure that this would qualify as "suffering". I'm personally voting for the "screwed up/slightly insane" requirement Seriously, though. A herald has to be able to look beyond him/herself and see (and do!) what is best for everyone. It is probably easier for someone who has suffered to do so: the "I've been there and I know how awful things can be" thought > > >2) What makes a good monarch, we know that Selenay was a good one but why? > Because at all times she put the welfare of the people first. She did make some mistakes (i.e. her first marraige) but she always concentrated on working and sacrificing for the people of Valdemar. During the war with Hardon, she deliberately gave up land to him in order to stall long enough to get the people away. Think about this: land was one of the few true measures of wealth and she was willing to sacrifice it for the people. She also made peace with Karse: the nation which was ultimately responsible for her father's death. Admittedly, you had the small matter of a complete change of government but still, making peace with your hereditary enemies for the sake of the people of Valdemar was a huge step that most people would not be able to make > that's all for now Zhai'helleva Ned BTW: Hi Lyn Ned Adams AKA S.Baldric If this is a trial of my abilities, the gods have no sense of proportion sbaldric-+AT+-roanoke.infi.net (Darkwind k'Sheyna) (703) 890-0212 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Sep 1995 10:52:30 -0500 (CDT) From: "Cecile S. This summer I was bored out of my mind, so I reread, in chronological order : The Oathbound books, the arrows books, Kerowyn's book, and the Mage Winds stuff. (I really enjoyed reading Vanyel, but I was so sad after the end, that I just couldn't bring myself to reread them just yet :}. I read the first storm book over Spring break, so it was a little soon to reread that one...) Anyway, I must say that reading all the books so close together really deepened my perspective on the books. I noticed much of the foreshadowing this time that I missed the first time around. For example, the first book I read was "By the Sword", so all the references to Need sort of grumbling in her sleep, went over my head. This time I caught them... The one series I haven't started are the gryphon books. How are they so far? I noticed that black is in paperback, and white in hardcover, sooo...
