I came into the Lackey books late myself so I hopped around in the reading order. This past summer I reread them somwhat in order. There really isn't a direct continuation after LHM stuff, but you can either read the Arrows of the Queen trilogy, or the Vows and Honor pair of books. The arrows stuff will keep you in Valdemar and give a fairly good intro the life of a "modern" herald. Vows and Honor is next chronologicly, but it only deals with Valdemar on a superficial basis. One thing that I will suggest is that you read the Arrows books then a stand alone titled "By the Sword" then dive into the Mage Winds books. The books have some of the same characters, and while they are separate, the build on one another. "By the Sword" is somewhat a follow up to the Vows and Honor books, but it also continues where the Arrow books left off too. Kinda confusing, but they're all a good read :) Enjoy! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Angela M. Storm Rising Musings Message-ID: <9509041702.AA24052-+AT+-water.waterw.com> SPOILERS DISCUSSED BELOW! :) I finally got the chance to finish "Storm Rising", and have a couple comments and a few questions - Gryphons find it best to leave fledging lessons to somebody NOT their parent. Sounds like teaching your kid to drive a car Does anybody but me find it odd that there has been *no* mention at all of what is or isn't going on at Lake Evendim? Evendim was part of Valdemar last I looked, and they know it's involved somehow with the storms. I don't remember seeing any mention of anybody being sent over there to see what's going on or any reports coming in about what's happening there. Since Keren, Teren, and Sherrill are all from Evendim, you'd think *they*, at least, would have raised the question. (or did this discussion happen and I missed it?) If Firesong was acting like such an idiot because of physical changes in his brain caused by the Storms (due to him being a Healing Adept), are those changes reversible or is he stuck with them? Did anybody find it odd that Talia got annoyed, and actually told the people who annoyed her that she was annoyed? ("I hope this is more important than what I was doing.") Or has she, too, been "brain damaged" by the storms (like Firesong was - and she *is* a healer of sorts)? If the counter-storm they caused at the end of SR caused things dating from Urtho's time to disappear, I wonder whether the same thing happened in all areas reached by the storms or just in the vicinity or the remains of Urtho's Tower. Did anything up around Evendim disappear? Did all the weapons stored in the Tower disappear? Did the TOWER disappear? Big question - where did they go? (I guess we get to wait for the next book on this one, huh :) ) In SR it is mentioned that Companions are reincarnated wise people, which leads me to believe that they aren't all necessarily reincarnated Heralds. ("...Companions were the same as Karsite Firecats - particularly wise humans who had opted for rebirth in this rather odd form, the better to guide and advise those who held great power in their lands.") Now we have been introduced to an unpartnered femal Companion by the name of Idry. Could Idry be Idra (Daren's grandfather's sister) reincarnated? In "By the Sword", wasn't Daren younger than Kero? In SR they are the same age. OK, that's all for now. I'll chat with you all later - Jeanne Hedge jhedge-+AT+-water.waterw.com ======================= "Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink..." --Samuel Taylor Coleridge, 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Sep 1995 15:12:16 -0400 (EDT) From: Wendy Howell To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: New person intro :) Message-ID: On Fri, 1 Sep 1995, Angela M. wrote: > > Hello All, > > I just found out about this wonderful mailing group, and since I fell in > love with Herald's and all the wonderful associated stuff, joining > sounded like a good idea :). > > This summer I was bored out of my mind, so I reread, in chronological > order : The Oathbound books, the arrows books, Kerowyn's book, and the > Mage Winds stuff.
