When Ancar tried to insist, they/it took stronger measures. I am very curious. I was convinced that the Winds trilogy would have Elspeth going to Iftel. (and while I liked the stories, I am still peculiarly disappointed that we don't know much about "strange, isolationist Iftel". The Shin'a'in were isolationist, and look what they were hiding! I was doing a serious cleaning, and found my long-lost copy of Oathbound. (This both justified the cleaning and put an abrupt end to it.) At the very beginning, Kalenal is referred to as the Goddess of the (New?) moon and the (South?) wind? Sorry, I'm losing it. There was definately a reference to a phase of the moon and to a "quarter" of the winds. Is it possible that Kalenal is "one of the Windlords"? Perhaps Iftel is a curious "no fly zone" the Gods of Velgarth have agreed to enforce? Just musings.....until we get Storm Breaking and White Gryphon. That's a good suggestion, though, in the Overworld (I think that's what it was called) the people in the Darkover books were able to control what went on, while in Dreamtime, they kind of have to go with the flow. Perhaps a deathwatch? Sounds like something a shaman >or priest would do when a person died, to console the family or the like. Hmmm. Well, this particular collection is certainly very sequential. This song falls after "Thinking out Loud" when Warll comes to Kero in the night to teach her control, and before "On the Edge of the Forest", which describes Kero's confrontation with Daren when he goes home and wants her to come with him and marry him. So that would put it somewhere during Kero's training. Snow is lying on the meadow, Ravens roosting in the tree, All the world was deep and silent, Whispers dancing on the breeze. Up the stairs to Kethry's workroom, Kero made the dark ascent, veering through the mist and darkness, wondered where her courage went. Draw the circle... There's a bowl upon the table, there's a fire in the bowl, from the fire a voice is calling, prophesying new and old. What if this doesn't concern Kero specifically? Remember when Kero found Daren crying about his father, went up to the workroom and "met" her uncle? This seems to me to describe Kethry's calling up the spell to talk to her son(?) When she is finding out what happened and that Daren's brother wants him home to train with the Lord's Marshall. In other words, this is Kethry's song, she's invoking a spell. Just another thought. If not then I will have to apologize, I may not yet have heard Misty's voice after all. Hmmm. Because of this discussion I re-listened to the CD yesterday. LL&L has some very nice songs on it, but I think both ShadowStalker and By the Sword have it far beat. And Heralds, Harpers & Havoc has better songs. LL&L is interesting, but I feel like there's a lot of whining songs (I don't mean the music, I mean the songs are of the 'woe is me' variety). There's a lot of that in that time period, mainly dealing with the time when Talia has not yet acknowledged her lifebond, and when she goes into Hardorn. Selenay sounds like she feels sorry for herself a lot, which certainly doesn't come across in the books, and Elspeth's songs are frequently self-indulgent. In addition, many of the songs sound the same to me. The guy who sings Dirk has a good voice, though it took a while to get used to him, but once I did I really enjoyed it.
