Another Jame fan! :-). The author is P.C. Hodgell, and yes, there is a third volume, called _Seekers Mask_, as well as a collection of the short stories. _God Stalk_ and _Dark of the moon_ were published in the UK in a trade paperback edition as _Chronicles of the Kencyrath_ some years back. _Seekers mask_ was published as a limited edition hardback by Hypatia Press, who also do matching hardback versions of _God Stalk_, _Dark of the Moon_ and the short story collection (whose name escapes me at the moment). Most (all?) of the stories are also available as chapbooks. Rumour has it that at least one more book may be in the pipeline. (P.S. - If anyone else bought the Hypatia _God Stalk_, did the promised correction sheets ever show up?). -- _|_ / | Jerry Cullingford jc-+AT+-crosfield.co.uk (Work) \_|_ jc-+AT+-selune.demon.co.uk (Home) \__/ Hemel Hempstead, UK jerry-+AT+-shell.portal.com (alternate) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 1995 10:15:03 GMT From: mel (Melanie Dymond Harper) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Casting characrers... Does anyone know (or guess ) anything about it? Tradition, I guess - it's "against the rules", so Rolan doesn't do it - unlike Sayvil, who "refuses to pretend that she can't do it" or words to that effect somewhere in one of the wind/storm books. -- _|_ / | Jerry Cullingford jc-+AT+-crosfield.co.uk (Work) \_|_ jc-+AT+-selune.demon.co.uk (Home) \__/ Hemel Hempstead, UK jerry-+AT+-shell.portal.com (alternate) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 1995 10:19:26 GMT From: mel (Melanie Dymond Harper) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Casting characrers... (Oh, it's only bandwidth, what the hell :)) I haven't seen it -- I don't think it's out here yet, or is only just out -- I saw a review on the TV a couple of nights ago. I have also seen a programme where they explained how the singing was done; to recap for those who missed my other message, Farinelli was a castrato, and nobody really knows much of what they sounded like these days. (I believe, contradicting my last message a bit, that there is one extant recording of a castrato singing, from sometime very early this century.) They eventually blended the voices of a counter-tenor (highest adult male voice) with a (female) soprano; the result is, well, unearthly. But very good, yes. I may go and see it, I may wait for the video. I really liked that book. Whoa, whoa, whoa there! Farrinelli...where? What movie was this? But I do agree, he would be a good Vanyel. Except for the silver eyes, which would be rather hard to do well...contacts? |-------------------------------<>-------------------------------| | "So, so you think you can tell/Heaven from Hell | | Blue skies from pain/Can you tell a green field | | From a cold steel rail/A smile from a veil | | Do you think you can tell?" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 1995 07:24:49 -0500 (EST) From: Rosario Holsen-Baker To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Companionless Heralds Message-ID: On Wed, 8 Nov 1995 SariKr-+AT+-aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 95-11-07 07:09:19 EST, you write: > > >Now here's another question: What would happen to a Herald who lost > >his/her Companion and survived? I did a quick reskim over them but came across nothing. Can > anybody shed any light on this > Weeeelll...'Lendel lost his Gala, but he then suicided (grrr). All other cases I think were when the Herald died about the same time as the Companion, usually because whatever targeted the one also targeted the other. In Anne McCaffrey's _Renegades of Pern_ there's a mention of a dragonless rider, in most of the books Lytol is mentioned to have lost his dragon, and Brekke (sp?) lost her queen dragon. I don't know if dragons are comparable to Companions, but there is a rather large precedent for a mindbonded person to outlive the other. That would cause some serious trauma, though... |-------------------------------<>-------------------------------| | "So, so you think you can tell/Heaven from Hell | | Blue skies from pain/Can you tell a green field | | From a cold steel rail/A smile from a veil | | Do you think you can tell?" | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 1995 07:26:39 -0500 (EST) From: Rosario Holsen-Baker To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: help and things Message-ID: On Wed, 8 Nov 1995 URAMESS-+AT+-aol.com wrote: > > Help.
