Does anyone know (or guess ) anything about it? I think its become pretty obvious that a Companion can speak to anyone he damn well pleases ;) Therefore Rolan, obviously a strong mindspeaker even for a Companion, can bespeak Talia if he really *wants* to. Why, then, doesn't he? Answer: Rolan is not particularly adventurous or defiant, unlike Sayvil or even Yfandes. It is apparently deeply entrenched tradition that Companions don't bespeak non-mindspeakers except at moment of bonding, when they can exercise that power freely and simply speak into the mind of an unGifted Chosen. Therefore, Rolan, no matter how frustrated he is personally, probably would not bespeak Talia unless literally the whole realm of Valdemar was dependent upon it. He is simply too bound by tradition. BTW, I didn't much like the Narnia movies on the BBC (or MPT, in DC) (lovely acronyms ;). I used to read Noel Streatfield. The voice in the movie was created by combining two voices, Polish coloratura soprano Ewa Mallas-Godlewska and American countertenor Derek Lee Ragin. The actor has the youth to play young Vanyel, with all of the flamboyance of a young rock star, but vulnerable and with hidden depth to his character. Yes - Hypatia Press published a limited edition of _Seekers Mask_ in a really nice leather bound, signed edition for 60$; (worth every penny and the air mail fee in my case :-) ). They've also done matching copies of _GS_ and _DOTM_, and a collection of the four or five Jame short stories - most of the latter are also available in chapbook format. Apparently, Hypatia are planning a 30$ version of _Seekers Mask_. *** For those you who want to contact Hypatia/Blue Moon by email, here are two ways: pressenter-+AT+-aol.com p.hypatia on genie *** The paperback versions of _Godstalk_ and _Dark of the Moon_ were published by Berkley Fantasy, ISBN's 0-425-06079-9 and 0-425-09561-4, respectively. The hardback versions were published by Atheneum. These books are way out of print, and difficult to find used, although many libraries have _Godstalk_, and I believe the latest DreamHaven catalog listed a hardback copy of _Dark of the Moon_. _Seeker's Mask_ was published in an expensive limited edition by Hypatia Press, whose phone number is (503) 485-0947. According to Dani's list of items of interest from Locus's Forthcoming Books list, Hypatia is planning to release new editions of all three books at non-ruinous prices in the slightly-distant future. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 1995 13:41:12 -0500 (EST) From: Rosario Holsen-Baker To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Companionless Heralds Message-ID: On Wed, 8 Nov 1995, Melanie Dymond Harper wrote: > > > > Has there ever been a mention of a Herald who has lost a companion in any of > > > Misty's books? Try Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince series. The first part, _Dragon Prince_ has a great plot, lots and _lots_ of political intrigue, and is also basically a romance story. The other parts are less in the romance department (but still not slouches in that area) but more in the others. Tom Baker as Puddleglum; gotta like it. And I just have to mention that we (Kamloops, BC) have snow now. Lots and lots of snow. In fact, the college closed at 3pm to make sure all of the students could get out safely. Barbara Michaels is another pseudonym for Elizabeth Peters (or vice versa - sorry, don't mysteries (Peabody-Emersons). Chonni Brightwolf IS my persona, put together according to the QO guidelines . I sent in my requirements in October, so I hope to be formally recognized in the December issue; what an Xmas present!!! I also am about to send off my stuff for the _Velgrath's Children_ book, which will include all personas, even those still in the works. Very well written books, that I will make sure any neices or nephews I have (cause I'm sure a H not having any of my own) will get to read them. Have you read the one that is a biography of Noel Streadfield herself. Its very interesting! Sarah PS Sorry to get so far off topic, but noone I know reads like me. (Not the new boyfriend--he's making me hate the name Griffon). I don't know his name, but he's got the right color hair (off-red) and the delicate frame someone else mentioned they wanted. Plus, he is the right age to play a 17-18 year old. (Actually, I do not think that I would want to see a movie of Valdemar. In fact, if one came out I probably wouldn't see it...well, I might, but I would probably regret it...I doubt any movie would live up to our expectations of it.) The amount of blurring of memory required to convince someone that the new Companion is only (understandably) a lot like the old one is much less than that required to make people forget about an entire country (Iftel) when making plans or completely block out the memory of magic as a real, potent, modern force. -jenneke jsb-+AT+-phantom.com new .sig in development ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 1995 19:05:59 -0500 (EST) From: Vivian Choh To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Barbara Michaels Message-ID: On Thu, 9 Nov 1995, Vivian Choh wrote: > On Wed, 8 Nov 1995, Adrienne York wrote: > > > Oh, wait, (sorry this post is forever) Barbara Michaels writes romantic > > suspense with a supernatural twist.
