Though I haven't read the Arrows for some while (reading them half-a-dozen times in a row _can_ cause mental indigestion ) I think there were several situations where Talia's (or someone else's) life or sanity was in danger. Rolan and Talia's was obviously a bonded Choosing. Therefore, it's (arguably) as strong as a lifebond. Therefore, I think Rolan would bespeak Talia if it was necessary and she was in danger - at least because _he_ might well die too, otherwise. The same way as shay'kreth'ashke, Companion and Herald regard each other as the most important being on earth (Velgarth?). That is what I get for staying at home and writing an essay yesterday instead of reading my mail!! Anyway, just a few comments to make on the above digest: Enid Blyton - yes, yes how could I forget??? She was the first author I ever read at about age 3 or 4 and then read solidly and nothign else for a few years before my mother succesfully got me to , reluctantly, read other books. For your information, there are three Far-Away Tree books, The Enchanted Wood, The Far-Away Tree and the Folk of the Far-Away Tree. Hmmmm this is the point when I forget which other posts in the digest i want to reply to....... I haven't read Storm Rising (not out in paper back here in the UK and am determined to keep my books matching!) but from what I have picked up in spoilers etc (reading spoilers just increases my enjoyment of the book when I finally get it as then as I read I see what people meant), well anyway, maybe Andesha and Firesong just naturally drifted apart once there was no "trauma" holding them together, maybe it was the Andesha's need for Firesong's help that held them together, a sort of reliance between them that Firesong needed more than he knew. People do drift away from each other naturally, when I first went to university i was convinced I would stay with my boyfriend of 3 years standing but we drifted apart. OK so there was a change but maybe the change in Andesha, as illustrated by the way he was able to help with the barrier at the end of Storm Warning, was a similar change. Sorry, am waffling, to summarise, maybe their drifitng apart was natural in the circumstances. Anyway, having done my bit to add to the deluge of messages on this list, I will go and read the next digest, Rosetta ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Nov 1995 12:48:08 GMT0BST From: DILLON LYNNE To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: MERCEDES-LACKEY digest 214 Message-ID: <21C5E7B15-+AT+-lin3.smf.nottingham.ac.uk> Just a quick reply to Gyrflacon: I used to be innocent before I was corrupted by someone I knwo reads this list just hasnt' come out into the open yet!!!!!!*grin* As for innocence and Misty not going together, depends on what you mean by innocence as she doesnt' go in for indepth love scences etc. Jus ta few thoughts on a wet, thursday afternoon waiting for my corrupter to arrive tomorrow! Therefore, I think Rolan would bespeak Talia if it was > necessary and she was in danger - at least because _he_ might well > die too, otherwise. I have to disagree here - except for very rare exceptions, *all* Choosings are bonded. So if your assumption was correct, then all companions would speak to their heralds in times of danger, and there wouldn't be a tradition that they don't - and since there *is*, your assumption must be wrong. Encouraging Heralds to rely on their own efforts is (IMO) the key thing here - it may be painful or sometimes fatal, but the alternative would probably be that the heralds would come to depend on the companions to warn them. (and after all, we can assume that most? all? of the companions know that while it may be fatal, it's hardly final :-) :-). > The same way as shay'kreth'ashke, Companion and > Herald regard each other as the most important being on earth > (Velgarth?). I think the Companions think first of their Chosen and > _then_ of the Queen and Country and such. Again, no - their duty comes first - otherwise you wouldn't have any cases of repudiation. That doesn't stop their chosen being their most important *person*, though... -Jerry -- _|_ / | Jerry Cullingford jc-+AT+-crosfield.co.uk (Work) \_|_ jc-+AT+-selune.demon.co.uk (Home) \__/ Hemel Hempstead, UK jerry-+AT+-shell.portal.com (alternate) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 Nov 1995 12:56:10 GMT0BST From: DILLON LYNNE To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: MERCEDES-LACKEY digest 214 Message-ID: <23E3D73EC-+AT+-lin3.smf.nottingham.ac.uk> On Wed, 8 Nov 1995, MISS MARIA T FOGEL wrote: > > Hey, I just thought of something else.
