I am 20, I attend Hollins college where I am double majoring in computer science and English or History. I started reading Misty in 11 grade and haven't looked back. I have to admit I read her books because I liked the cover art on the black gryphon. Yes, I know don't judge a book by its cover, but I couldn't find anyone who had read any of her books so I opened it on the basis of the cover. Oh yes, I am a sophmore. I think that is everything. :) Jennie G. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Nov 1995 04:10:01 -0500 (EST) From: Hollie Virgin To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Heart's Blood Message-ID: <199511110910.EAA28273-+AT+-service1.cc.uky.edu> On Thu, 9 Nov 1995, Lisa Ellen Watermelon Waltz wrote: >My >first, 6th grade, 11 years old. _Heart's Blood_, by I forget who. It has been over four hours since I posted this morning (Pacific > Time, US) and I still haven't gotten mail back from my posting. [I'm not picking on you, Staci, you just happened to ask the question at a point when I needed to say something anyhow] First off, four hours -- at least in Internet mail terms -- is not a long time at all. Rule (1) -- Patience! The reason things are backlogged a bit at the moment is that the listproc did overnight Thu-Fri, so I had to restart it when I got into work Friday morning; it will restart automatically if the computer on which it's running reboots, but not if it dies itself, because it usually means there's something I need to fix first. That done, it started processing the overnight buildup at about 11am my time. I know there was a big backlog because a message I sent didn't wind up being processed until after I'd gone home :) At the moment the list is being very active. Not necessarily a bad thing, but some of it should be taken to private mail; responses to polls, for one, 'me-too' requests. I also note the reappearance of long .signature files; please cut these down. Rule (2) -- Think before posting, and take it to private mail if you can. Every message posted to the list has to go out to about 300 people. That means that about 300K of data has to leave here (that's about the minimum once headers have been added). Even with a permanent connection to the Internet, that takes a few minutes. So trimming included text would be a good thing, too. Rule (3) -- Trim to the vital bits when including other text; leave out headers, signatures, etc. Lastly, much as I would like to have a machine dedicated solely to running the list, it just isn't so. The machine has to do several other things (including run one other large mailing list, which takes an hour and a half or so to process, and run the Web server which is its main purpose in life). Also, having it on a separate machine would probably not help all that much since there are bandwidth issues to consider as well. I don't want to make anyone feel unloved, unwanted or anything like that. Just have a little more respect for vanyel.herald.co.uk, he's working pretty hard to keep up :) Cheers Mel-+AT+-home. I think that the foresight dreams were just the potential rearing its head... If you remember, he also had a foresight dream before Tylendel came to his bed... If the Valdemarian diety had a hand in this I think it would have been a little more obvious... Yeah, I'm from Florida, but I go to school in North Carolina (Duke). Whenever I call home, whoever I talk to always complains about the weather. Last year, my mom was complaining that they had to turn on the air conditioning to light a fire in the fireplace. :) Of course, Winters are a bit different here, the high in NC is often the low in FL. :) Ob.Narnia: I've been reading and loving those books now for over 15 years (I'm 20). I don't remember the first time I read them, but I remember reading and re-reading them whenever I felt the need for something familiar. Ob.Misty: I find myself reading and re-reading the Valdemar books now when I feel the need to find comfort in something. Usually it's By The Sword, since I think Kero is awesome. :) Anyway, I'd best get back to my program now. Actually, that was wishful thinking, not Foresight. He was very lonely and in love w/Lendel. I mean, even w/out being lonely and in love I'd dream about 'Lendel... re: Van's Foresight potential: I don't think that could do it. It might give him vauge premonitions, but that was a full blown Foresight dream. And as for deities being more showy, (is thinking of how Van got Bardic Gift when his channels were blown open) maybe they were acting mature for once, or maybe a Companion had a hand in it. I dunno... wyvern ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Nov 1995 17:40:32 EST From: SMHA86B-+AT+-prodigy.com (MISS MARIA T FOGEL) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: If you could be..... We get heat from November through to March, and personally, I don't like it. I prefer the cold. We even had a heatwave in the middle of August this year and August is a winter month, when we normally get cold Winter winds. Yes, I think you and I had better swap place of residence. -- -- Catherine Murdoch | Internet: ulcam-+AT+-dewey.newcastle.edu.au Auchmuty Library | Ph (intl+61+49) 217147 University of Newcastle, AUSTRALIA | Fax (intl+61+49) 215833 "If man could be crossed with a cat, it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat." - Mark Twain ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 222 *********************************
