It looks like an encoded file to me as well.  Are you sure you aren't
automatically trying to attach something to your messages?  Or somehow
encoding your sig file?

ok to put my two cents in, it was Athena who turned Arachne into a 
spider, kArachne's mother had boasted do much that her daughter was 
THE Best weaver, even better than Athena, the goddess of womanly arts.
A contest was called and the women each wove a carpet of beauty... 
Athena's was stil better, but out of jealousy for Arachne's talent 
she turned her into a spider to weave forever...
