The first is HUNTING PARTY by Elizabeth Moon. People who like Bujold and some of Cherryh's sf might want to check this book and it's sequels out. Second recommendation: THE GODMOTHER by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough. This is an urban fairytale(s), and has a sequel called THE GODMOTHER'S APPRENTICE, which I haven't read yet, but apparently takes place in Ireland, and uses irish mythology. And I also want to give a quick thanks to all the people who recommended Tamara Pierce, Duane, and Ann Maxwell! The large man sitting across the room put down his copy of "A Roc and a Hard Place (c)" and wandered over to the computer screen. "Hmmmm, I guess we have to make another road trip, I know where Timmerman is, he's about due for some reconditioning. As for this Jaguar person, can you find her?" "I can find her." "Good, just be careful, she might have one of those damn white horses. I remember last time we tried a run one of them chased me off the University grounds... Where was that anyway, Michigan?" "Yeah, that was a real fiasco." ======= Gerald paused for a minute while loading his pickup truck. He grunted as he tossed in the twenty six volumes of "Gaining Information through the use of PUNishment: The Complete Piers Anthony Guide To Torture." Timmerman didn't have a chance... Just like last time. Gerald hoped that Catherine would be okay, he had been the hospital (St Martha's clinic for the criminally inept) for several months recovering from being attacked by that damn white horse. Oh well. Quickly changing into his white "David Eddings Costume (TM)" he threw that big axe into the seat next to him and gunned the engine. "Timmerman", he thought, "I remember you, but will this be as easy as last time?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay for the newbies, here is an installment of the "Men in White (tm)". Whoever they're after this time... Good luck. BTMIW! --Gyrfalcon =======================msowers-+AT+-menger.eecs.stevens-tech.edu=================== Magic still exists. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. I never havefound scissors, so I keep a large selection of spears, swords, knives, arrows, and origami techniques perfect for using to snip at letters. Come on people, let's get creative!(perky head bob followed by *slashing sound* as said head is quickly removed.) 3)When Taver chose Shavri, Vanyel had thought he was the more apt choice, yet he was fully bonded to Yfandes, as is evidenced by Savil's comment that if he died, she would die. I suppose this is why he wasn't chosen(Chosen?), but who knows. who knows. 4)Hi Lee! and all other newcomers, as well. So as not to seem rude, as I'm so skilled at being. I fully believe in magic, curses, devine entities, deities and miracles. I am also skilled at most of these things, and my mom knows how people can move mountains, as evidenced by the only two earthquakes New Mexico has experienced in a very long while. We don't do that though, we might screw up somehow, and that wouldn't be good. I personally experience miracles everyday, and if you stop to look at small things, you might see some of your own. 5)Congrats to all the Heralds out there who made it into whites. I doubt if I could even be chosen, I'm awfully self-centered, and just about as fatheaded as Lores. 6)Lavan Firestorm was not repudiated, but killed himself, and I believe his Companion, in an attempt to kill the enemy, by calling down the fires. 7)It seems obvious to me that Deities _do_ listen and act on prayers, as when Valdemar prayed to all the Deities he had ever heard of for, whether he knew it or not, Companions. Thus, the "no one true way" creed and the fact that you cannot pray for victory might be to ensure that none of the Deities get angry at you and kill you off for forgeting them. Or to ensure that you don't accidently stack up favors/enemies. If they had prayed for victory against Karse, for instance, they might have had the enclaves of Karsite religion rise up against them, or any of the Deities such as Kal'in'al(sp?) attack them. All in all, religious wars do not strike me as advisable in such touchy situations. Sorry if I confused anyone with this, it's another of my skills. 8)I apologize that this is so long, but I make up for it with completely new material, instead of snippage, another reason for loaning out my utensils. Whether you were at work or play, distracted, or zoning, you probably would. The Death Bell is, quite possibly, a subconsious reaction, much like crying, and since a horse can't cry, no matter how special, maybe it's the Companions' way of mourning. When Tylendel died, the Bell rang because he was a very close friend with all of the Heralds and Companions. Questions, complaints, comments, rude remarks?
