I agree, Urtho obviously wouldn't use that kind of "take over someone else's body" spell. The point is, Urtho could well be reincarnated into a new body, the same way Lendel did. Apparently he could even retain some memories, so he wouldn't need to start from scratch while Ma'ar & co remembered everything. He pulls a wand from his pocket, points it at the box, and says 'I wonder what will happen this time?'. The wand pulses, with no obvious effect. The penguin looks at the box. He looks down at himself. 'At least it hasn't backfired this time - I hope!' He frowns suspiciously at the wand, which looks smugly back in the way wands - or at least *this* wand - has made a fine art of. On impulse, he looks up - is that a tiny speck, up there in the sky, getting bigger? He decides to back away quickly, just in case, and watches from a safe distance. A few minutes later, a large roast roc lands on the cardboard box with an explosion of charred feathers, leaving a large crater. The penguin retreats behind a nearby bush to see if any survivors will emerge from the crater. 'funny' he thinks 'the last time it did that it I could have sworn it plucked the roc first'.... -- _|_ / | Jerry Cullingford jc-+AT+-crosfield.co.uk (Work) \_|_ jc-+AT+-selune.demon.co.uk (Home) \__/ Hemel Hempstead, UK jerry-+AT+-shell.portal.com (alternate) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jan 1996 12:20:05 EET From: "Sanna Koulu" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: New thread!: Characters Message-ID: <1AB9CF67FB-+AT+-otdk.helsinki.fi> Mannaheim wrote: > I've been working on a list of characters. I have to say that I tend to find them more hit-and-miss than the US cover pictures, for example - but maybe that would happen anyway, no matter who was doing them - you see the cover first, so that forms your initial impression, which you develop from there as you read the book - and *nobody* working independantly is going to match the cover image, or your mental image. That was one of the problems when I first the Lord of the Rings film - none of the characters matched my mental image *at all*, and it took a long time to get past that and appreciate the film on its own merits. [By the way - is anyone else out there collecting ME:TW cards?]. I'd love to see how interior pictures by the cover artist (Jody Nye? I'm blanking on the name at the moment) would work out. > On a similar theme, how do we get rid of the awful UK paperback > cover illustrator - those dreadful Bambi-eyed companions - I'm surprised > (s)he didn't give them cute'sey eyelashes as well. Most of my Misty books are US imports :-). For some strange reason, US covers usually look nicer than the UK ones, but (in general) UK books usually seem to use higher quality materials. Now I am trying to squeeze it into my very limited space in >between my Misty Lackey books and my Anne McCaffrey books. Well, if you liked the Magic and the Healing, you might want to try "Under the Healing Sign," which is the continuation of the series. Just my thoughts... He has trouble coping with An'desha's independance in SB, but I think that eventually he'll cope with it and find out that he likes An'desha now better than he did when An'desha was totally dependant on him, though that gives Firesong less control over his life.
