Umm.. I'd need to go re-read the books to find where it is exactly, but I'm sure that it's mentioned somewhere that some schools have the much coveted ability to do this. I can't remember exactly where, so I can't be certain. By the sounds of the song it requires a lot of power to do so, mind you. I guess with the reserve that the school is supposed to have, it's less of an issue. I know it's difficult to pick up a sleeping cat, but still, they don't exactly pour... ;) Sorry, Jag. I'm a Shaman, remember? Not Tayledras, not a Cat-child, not OIB (though I do have some good Kal'enedral friends), and *certainly* not a man (or woman, for that matter) in white. > P.S. ObMisty -- does anyone know when Storm Rising is coming out in paperback? I'm strapped for cash at the moment, what with upgrading Fred, my computer, but I'd really like to have a copy to flip to when I need it. I've got most of the other books memorized, but it's hard to memorize what you don't have... I'd think that if in Vanyel's day they were just discovering how to trigger potential by Elspeth's day the "secret" would be widely known, even if it couldn't be used because of the lack of energy resources etc... - Shadow-Lover ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Feb 1996 10:28:17 -0800 From: wdjpej-+AT+-ix.netcom.com (William Jones ) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: The Ones in Black Message-ID: <199602031828.KAA01886-+AT+-ix9.ix.netcom.com> You wrote: > > >On Sat, 3 Feb 1996, Jaguar wrote: > Augh! I thought that both Stefan and Vanyel still had their memories because when Elspeth and Darkwind meet him in "Winds of Fury" because he talks about how people can't even think of magic being part his fault and part Stef's fault so he would have to remember some things at least. But surely that's for spells that are used in plain view, other mages can study it while it's being cast and try and imitate it. I assume the schools would do this spell in the safety of one of their chapterhouses. -David ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Feb 1996 23:49:27 -0800 (PST) From: TSALE-+AT+-ups.edu To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: New Thread Re: Stefan Message-ID: <960203234927.20211d28-+AT+-ups.edu> It seems that the spirit that is in the forest with Vanyel is both Stefan and Tylendel.
