I don't know why but I think that Misty's newer books are way better than the older ones. - Firecats...I love them! Too bad we didn't get to see more of them. - Why did Karal survive? How come that there's always happy endings in Her novels? I mean - even tLHM ended happily, and there the main character *died.* Of course, most of the time they have earned a little happiness. - Favorite Character: Grand Duke Tremane. There is absoloutely no reason that this would happen, except for one. Do they have more intimate relationships or does it all stay, say, casual? We certainly haven't seen life- or love-bonded Companions, but is it because they are Companions or is it because they are heavily involved in Valdemaran politics (-> Florian talking to Karal in SW, sorry, no chapter reference)? Vanyel doea have the Bardic Gift. I don't recall where it says it... But I can look it up if you'd like. The town itself is only 2,000 people, and we're kinda out in the sticks - so *anything* different is abnormal to them. Of course, I'm in college now, but due to $$$ concerns I'm still *living* in the same town... Doesn't that make sense? I mean, not all Healers are equally good, nor all Heralds, etc., etc. Morticia ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 1996 11:44:31 -0800 (PST) From: "Patrick S. And it wasn't used as an ink. Healer Andrel used it as a sedative/pain killer on Vanyel when he was all messed up after having his channels blasted open. Also, these quotes tie in to the fact that Savil was trying to find a way for Van to stay at Haven. In order to stay as a bardic student, he would have to have had two of the three abilities (talent, gift, &/or ability to compose) but Van had only one, the tallent. I think it was noted somewhere that Van, when he was still a chanel, had great potential in many gifts. When his potential was 'activated', one of the gifts activated was the bardic gift. This is ironic for several reasons. First, Vanyel would have given the proverbial anything to have the bardic gift, but only because it would have allowed him to stay with Tylendel. As it turned out, what he gave was his primary reason for wanting the gift in the first place. This is also ironic because having the bardic gift would have allowed him to stay in Haven and study at the Collegium as a Bard. As it turned out, he did get to stay in Haven and study at the Collegium, but even though he would then have been elegible, because he was chosen he was only allowed to do so as a Herald and not a Bard as he had wished. This event carries further irony later on in the story, with Stefan. Tylendel had things which Van could not, a place in Haven, a bond with a companion, and his various gifts. When Van lost 'Lendel, he gained all this and more. But when 'Lendel came back as Stefan, he had different things that Van couldn't have: the ability to become a Bard and the lack of responsibilities which came with being one of (and eventually THE) last of the Herald-Mages. Once again I am writing this without the books in front of me so feel free to correct me anyone! ___________________ -==UDIC==- ________________ |\__________________\ McCaffrey's White Dragon |\________________\ ||Why is he talking | || | || to that | a.k.a. || Don't ask. | || White Coconut? | Jake Gipple \|________________| \|__________________| (360)-887-4779 LEMUR!
