TELECOMUNICATIONS BILL!!! Message-ID: <199602090111.SAA01308-+AT+-usr2.primenet.com> Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the telecomunications bill passed? (Sorry for those of you in the uk. You still get to say what you want:) Granted I don't go trolling for pornography sights, but according to the websight about it, this bill allows the FCC to read EVERY SINGLE PEICE OF E-MAIL ECT. THAT GET'S SENT!!! It allows them to regulate what people have on their web-sites, and it, to me, says that the US of A isn't as free as we like to think it is. I know I'm opening myself to a lot of flames here, and perhaps I desrve them, but what happens next? Do we start burning the books that are banned? I think Misty's work is on quite a few of those lists... Please note, I DO NOT ADVOCATE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!!! I realize that this bill is upposedly saving us from ourselves, but it's interesting to note that the leading researchers of child-lockout programs was one of the first sites to turn black (In protest, for those who haven't seen any pages like this). What I do advocate is freedom of speech, even cyber-speech. I should warn you, Leslie Fish's voice is, er, um... Different. I've never seen her in concert, but even from the tapes she's on you can tell she puts everything she's got into her music. As someone said in the Bardic Gift debate (sorry, just cleeaned out my trash pile), if you can have the Bardic Gift in this world, she's got it. I agree. I admit to being biased on the part of Heather Alexander though. Her album Wanderlust is absolutely amazing!!! She sings everything on SS, and is also on Oathbound (though not nearly enough. My name is Anissa Moon, and I'm new to the Net, although not to fantasy and fandom. I've been a member of Queen's Own for three years, but only recently began serious work on a persona, and am still a Herald-trainee. I've made many wonderful friends through QO and hope to make many more here, although I must admit -- I'm not quite sure where to begin! I guess I'll just have to wait until I get a feel for things, and can sift through all of my email. As for a brief introduction: I'll be 18 in a couple of months and am a high school Senior in a small town near San Francisco. I love fantasy, as I mentioned before, as well as classics (including works by the Bronte's, Jane Austen, etc.) and American literature (particularly Faulkner, Poe, Hemingway, and Steinbeck). Poets and writers of the Romantic era are also favorites, and I adore everything Gothic, 18th century, Baroque and Renaissance. My favorite subjects are English/literature and art history, and my favorite Misty book is Magic's Pawn (I never cried so hard in my life as when Tylendel died -- forget Van, *I* was in love with him! ), which I was fortunate enough to get a signed copy of at Fantasy Worlds Festival '94. Of course (needless to say!), the rest of the Herald-Mage trilogy and the Arrows books were nothing short of magnificent, too. In the way of music, I love Erasure ( especially), Enya, Depeche Mode, Loreena McKennitt, Clannad, Mozart and Vivaldi, among others. I'm sure I've forgotten a few! This is only my first day, and if anyone has any advice or tips or (please!) explanations, info would be very much appreciated. Also, how do I find descriptions of the different groups? How do I join (inquiry, invitation, etc.)? Oh, This is my dad's account, so Kendall Legg is not me! I'm Jason, but please call me FLYNN. That's the name I've used for a few years now. Like you all, I am a big Mercedes Lackey fan. My first Misty book was "The Lark and the Wren". It was the first book I ever read that touched me enough to make me want to read more. Even now I am researching and working on a piece of work I hope to finish in a few months and eventually sell. My favorite books by her are, "The Lark and the Wren" (obviously!), "The Last Herald Mage" (I've got the 3 in one volume), and her Bard's Tale stories. But I'll read anything with her name attached! Fair winds and skies, --Gyrfalcon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~msowers-+AT+-menger.eecs.stevens-tech.edu~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Magic still exists. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Let the magic that is in us roam free in our work, play, in each other, and most of all in ourselves. Let it roam free or it will die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 1996 21:02:20 -0800 (PST) From: Becky Anne Christensen To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: MERCEDES-LACKEY digest 359 Message-ID: On Thu, 8 Feb 1996, Birgit Hanel wrote: > On Wed, 7 Feb 1996 clerkdj-+AT+-supreme.crt.state.vt.us wrote: > > > > > > Ok, this is getting too long, but two quick questions: How much do we know > > about how the Companions experience sexual desire? Morrison - morrisjm-+AT+-sbu.edu---------------- WOW! My high school has 3,600 people at the last count. That town must be tiny. Anyways, Even when you go to a large school, a lot of people are still the same. People tend to group themselves and become clones of each other, so you may haave lots of different groups, but within the groups, people are generally the same. Now, when you throw someone in who doesn't fit into any one group (like me), *presto* you have the abnormal person. Now what gets really strange, people tend to group the people they consider abnormal together. I think it's a riot, people at my school just have a hard time compreheding that you don't have to belong to 1 certain group. Now, to make this Misty related, how do you think things like this work in Valdemar? I mean the whole society, all we usually see is the Collegium. I would love to hear more about the so called normal people of Valdemar, and see if they are much like what we would consider normal. I use normal very loosely, by it I mean what most people do and society as a whole. Misty's books drew me like no others, except for Mary Stewart and her trilogy about King Arthur. I long for days when there were Knights in Shining Armor ready to defend all that is good and honorable. I think that compared to books, reality pales. Our world today can get so....disgusting! I haven't met to many people ready to go out and fight for good and honor, but when I do, I instantly like them. I consider fictional characters to be my role-models in some sense. Imagine if we could live our lives as Kerowyn, or Selenay did, even if they aren't real, Misty has done such a good job of creating them, that they could be. Books are so real, and why would you want to read a book about something horrid, it's like putting yourself into a horrid place. If the US Government wish to send someone to Britain to arrest me for saying "fuck" in this message, leyt 'em try ... I love fantasy, as I mentioned before, my favorite Misty book is Magic's Pawn (I never cried so hard in my life as when Tylendel died -- forget Van, *I* was in love with him! ), which I was fortunate enough to get a signed copy of at Fantasy Worlds Festival '94. Of course (needless to say!), the rest of the Herald-Mage trilogy and the Arrows books were nothing short of magnificent, too. In the way of music, I love Erasure This is only my first day, and if anyone has any advice or tips or (please!) explanations, info would be very much appreciated.
