I did cry over Arrows though. Especially when Kris died, I really liked Kris. My other favorite so far is Mage Storms. I haven't completed the trilogy yet, but it is wonderful so far. I especially love it because it has main characters that aren't Heralds, or mages. It's something almost completely new, an alliance with the ancient enemies. And we're getting to know all about these other countries. Lady Becky ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Feb 1996 22:03:28 -0800 (PST) From: "Kristin A. A bit belated, but never mind. I tend to agree - IM-uninformed-O (not having swapped bodies), gender based differences in thinking to a large extent tend to be either a result of societal expectations and upbringing as a child and hormone-related effects. There is no evidence that I know of that indicates a physical (in the sense of brain structure) difference between or cause of male and female thinking. (Yes, I know as a trend, males tend to be better at spacial thinking whereas females tend to be better at linguistics and lateral thinking but I would argue that these are the results of societal inputs rather than something inherent). > > Well, I don't know about anybody else out there, but I'd have a > > much more difficult time if I woke up one day to find I was a guy > > than if I woke up to find myself equipped with whiskers and a long > > tail. :) > > I disagree personally, but.. Not making any sense, am I? :) Hmmm, it might be that changing your species-view is a big enough change that one might almost take the world-view change in one's stride (guess who's been reading too much mage-duel stuff). I tend to think personally that it might be an initial shock, but I think all the feedback you get from a body (kinesthia, balance etc) would combine such that it would quickly feel more natural. Along the lines of it being *your* body because you're wearing it, regardless of what body you might have had previously. Just some thoughts. I guess what I'm getting at is that > in a lovebond you still have surprises unlike in a lifebond when you already > "know." Hmmm, not that I necessarily disagree with a love-bond being better, but what you said just above (lovebond having surprises, lifebond not) can't be right if Stef & Van have both. The way they're defined above, they're mutually exclusive. >From what I've seen in the books, I'd define a life-bond as a mutual dependancy (2 halves of the same soul or however you care to state it) which may or -may not- consist of two people who love each other. A love-bond is just that - the bond of love between two people. Now in the books so far, we haven't ever actually seen a life-bond where a love-bond didn't exist as well. The closest we see is where Dirk & Talia haven't acknowledged their lifebond. And being cynical, regardless of what Stef said, having a life-bond *and* a love-bond (with the same person!) would just have to take the cake. It'd certainly avoid the problems in a love-bond that happen occasionally where everytime you open your mouth, you put your foot in it and wish later that you'd had the sense to keep quiet. :) So yes, I've changed my mind. If I had a choice, I'd take both (greedy, I know), but otherwise go for a love-bond. :) Cheers, Kerry. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Feb 1996 12:14:00 -0500 (EST) From: Yvonne Spangler To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Storm Breaking and Silver Gryphon (Possible spoiler) Message-ID: On Mon, 12 Feb 1996, Rynath wrote: > Okay.
