Annoyance of the Week: the two couples to be featured on this week's A&E Biographies (tv show) are Adam & Eve, and Samson and Delilah. I must have really missed something growing up, cuz I didn't realize that being cast out of one's home/being cursed with painful childbirth and being forced into marriage/legal rape/suicide-instead-of-stoning was considered romantic...on the woman's part. My dream is to someday rewrite the Bible so that it makes sense, and isn't so darn depressing...of course, then it wouldn't be very Christian . *note- this is not a slam on all Xians, but most church goers I know are incredibly morbid, or else wear rose-coloured glasses and try to emulate Snow White. Most of my Xian friends are free-thinkers, or else they're just not anything in particular. ObMisty: where Do all those Gifted, yet unHeraldic people go? Well, one place would definately be religion; lots of people in our own world have turned to religion in order to express themselves. IIRC it's said (Somewhere in AotQ) that if the MOC dies then a new MOC comes out of the grove to take his place. He bonds the old MO, if such is said to be still among the living. Or, if not, goes out to find a new one. This points that the MO is not totally protected from the trauma of the shattering of an Herald-Companion bond. But, also, IIRC one kind of bond can buffer the loss of another. (ex Keren and Sherril at Ylsa's death, Van and Yfandes at Tylendel's suicide, etc.) Not to mention that if a Companion dies the Herald just goes into shock, and tries to either kill himself or will himself into oblivion. ex Tylendel, Lavan. Fair winds and skies --Gyrfalcon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~msowers-+AT+-menger.eecs.stevens-tech.edu~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Magic still exists. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Let the magic that is in us roam free in our work, play, in each other, and most of all in ourselves. Let it roam free or it will die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Feb 1996 09:20:21 -0500 From: Joan Ferguson To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Silver Gryphon Out!! Chalk it up to raging enthusiasm and adrenaline (or whatever kicks in when you're excited). Silver Gryphon (hardbound) has been sighted in Lexington, KY, USA which isn't quite a cultural backwater, but sometimes feels like it is. We do have an absolutely wonderful bookstore (that is expanding) which may explain much. White Gryphon is out in paperback, not trade paperback (dimensions, uh, 5 in x 8in or something like that). I didn't get it yet (don't faint), so can't give cover blurbs. (Son has a gift certificate that he hasn't used yet and it's his turn to buy!!! (He doesn't leave home for 5 more years or so, so I should have time to read it.)) I was lately siezed with a mad yen to edit and publish a 'zine. I'm very excited about this project, BUT.... It occurs to me that I don't know how in heaven's name to go about this. This is where you all come in.... Have any of you ever published a 'zine? Know anyone who has? Are there any resources I could look over that would help me get my bearings? Please, if you can contribute any wisdom, from the philosophical to the deeply practical (the latter preferred), I stand in sore need of it.
