Yes, I realize that Misty lives in Oklahoma, as do the others  
mentioned...perhaps you do not realize that Oklahoma is only sort-of  
part of the Midwest? <grin>  It's about 8 hours from my house to  
anything, however small, in Oklahoma (13 hours from my dorm), and I  
can't exactly show up on Misty's doorstep demanding a copy of SG...to  
say nothing of other new fantasy works.  It is ironic to say the  
least that such creative minds (including, of course, moi! <giggle>)  
can come from such barren (figuratively) soil.  In Nebraska, we still  
get some people thinking that fantasy readers must be  
Satan-worshippers (oh, of course--you see, fantasy people must *all*  
play D&D...and D&D players are *all* Satanists, everyone knows  
that...so all fantasy readers are Satanists, QED).

And I'd like a nice sharp cheddar if you have some...or maybe  
Havarti, if any of you are familiar with Nordic stuff...

i heard eng in person once singing idra's sunhawks. it wasn't intell then
that i realized it wasn't her voice i disliked, but the midi
instraments....yuck...in fact...i even enjoyed misty's singing in person,
and i think her voice on the tapes is by far the most annoying to listen
to....

IIRC, in the back of SB, she said (and don't expect a direct quote!)
she would be writing about Velgarth, Valdemar, Heralds, Companions and
the Eastern Empire as long as her fans wanted to read the books. From
this comment, I rather doubt she's going to can the series. Not only
because all of us would keel over and die without our fix, but because
the powers-that-publish are making lots of $$$$'s from the books!

Right, but I also liked the way we got to hear what the villain was 
thinking in MW.  I mean, it's a better book when we're not hating some 
shallowly evil, cardboard cartoon villain.

I dunno. Medren was _talking_ to Vanyel at that point. Breda says that the
Bardic gift gets in the way of the music sometimes. If it got in the way at
those times, wouldn't you simply not use it? What she seemed to say _to me_
at least, was that they didn't just not use it. I think I must be
misinterpreting though, now that I think of it, considering Van's worry at
Stephen's using his Gift while playing for the merchant's customers. Great,
now I'm contradicting myself. You say that a healer doesn't go around
Healing all the time, however, I get the feeling that some of those people
_would_ go around healing people until they dropped if there were enough
people who needed healing. At least, in Valdermar they would... but I guess
that since Valdemar's different that wouldn't count, would it?

In "Sword Sworn" (in MZB's Sword and Sorceress III), when Tarma's clan was
attacked and wiped out, Tarma was beaten, strangled, and raped by the
bandits.  I'd say the strangling did it.

Well, if I remeber correctly...During the raid that destroyed her
clan,  she was strangled with a necklace...It wrecked her vocal
cords...before then she had a *beautiful* voice..

Kris and whatshername have the Mage-Gift? Knowing their family tree, it 
wouldna' be SURPRISING, just I didna' remember that. Then again, all my 
hardbacks (WoC and on) have been borrowed by my best friend....!! Oh! You 
mean the EX-Heir! 

And we have a VERY well recorded case of Heralds in love w/ 
non-Heralds..two, in fact. Lendel (herald) and Van (what will once the 
colors are made be considered a Blue), and Van (herald) and Stef (bard).

Have you read "Swordsworn", from _Sword and Sorceress III_ ?  It's 
the first Tarma and Kethry story.  It has the slaughter of Tale'sedrin
and the meeting of T&K.  Anyway, when Tale'sedrin is slaughtered,
for some reason, Tarma lives (sorry, it's been many years since I
happened to find a copy in my library, which has since dissapeared :( ).
Then, the mercenaries gang rape her.  I think they did something to
destroy her voice, which had been beautiful before.

Just a thought.... would y'all prefer being partnered with a Herald or 
not?  It would be nice to have the assurance that yes, he (or she) is a 
genuinely nice person, no deceptions involved, but it would be pretty 
difficult to maintain that relationship.  You can't share in the major 
part of the Herald's life--can't even relate to it, sometimes.  

Hmmmm.......segue-ing into the Lifebond/Lovebond question, in an ideal 
world, I'd want the Lifebond AND the Lovebond.  If you make me 
choose.....I'd take the Lifebond.
