Far as I know, except for changes in translation, the canon hasn't changed since the Vulgate Bible in the ninth century. Now, I may be fuzzy on my dates; it's been a bloody long time since I took Biblical Lit. But it's only new in a grand, historical sense. To the mortal eye, a thousand plus years does not constitute "recently." Do you know something I don't? Ummm...about the chronology of the New Testament, that is. First, it was _Sword_&_Sorceress_ (ed. Marion Zimmer Bradly) which is a series of fantasy short stories, all featuring women as the main characters. I don't remember which volume this was in (there's probably twenty or more by now) but it's probably in the first two or three. I do reccommend the books to everyone. One place to look would be the library. It would probably be in the anthologies section (early 800's, Dewey Decimal) rather than the fiction section. ___________________ -==UDIC==- ________________ |\__________________\McCaffrey's White (X)Dragon|\________________\ ||Why is he talking ||| | || to that | || Don't ask. | || White Coconut? | Jake Gipple \|________________| \|__________________| (360)-887-4779 LEMUR! Bear with me, and I'll attempt to support >this. >>very good arguments snipped for space<< I never said there wasn't a "title character," a person around whom, for all intents and purposes the world revolves (well, in the book anyway :). My point was that no character can survive (or be interesting) in a vacuum. If all we saw was Van wandering around he'd be dull. Who'd want to read about him? And, you have to admit, Van goes through some pretty dull moments in Magic's Pawn, such as when he's recouperating and Misty is writing from Savil's point of view. I know it's because Van is really out of it, he's to hopped up on Andrel's drugs to even HAVE a point of view. But my point is that having more than one "main" character (as opposed to the aforementioned revolving point) adds depth, richness, texture, and variety to any book. > Okay, I'm ready to defend myself against all attackers if necessary. >I'm standing behind this one. Hey, even if I didn't agree with you in spirit (which I think we do, we just have different terms for different concepts, I think), you'd be completely justified in your opinion.
