I'm sure she did, but I can't remember what Tarma's 'act of expediency' was.. But if the coat of arms came first...? .Comments? Valdemar's coat of arms has IIRC, *Windrider* on it, who was a companion, and it depicts his escape/unchainment (see "Windrider Unchained" in the back of _Magic's Price_ or on _Shadow Stalker._ To Valdemarians, this happened so long ago that I think it's in the status of myth to them, so of course everything wouldn't be 100% true-to-real (well, their real, at least) life. So they added wings to Windrider to further embellish his (her?) tale. I can't remember if the coat of arms came before or after companions, but I'd say after, probably, because the "pegasus" is supposed to be Windrider. Do pegasi exist in Valdemar? Neither, actually, as I fall outside of the standard Misty Single Straight Female demographics. What *I* want to know is who would you guys go for? I've got a toss up inbetween Kerowyn and (young) Kethry, but that's just me... Zha'hai'allav'a! ======================== Rynath (OIB) / Jake ===================== "How could it?" Tom asked. I got it this weekend, .and it's great. So is her singing "Lammas Night" on MM&M. So is her singing on _Shadow Stalker_ (especially "Nightblades," "Colddrake," and *Shadow Lover!"*) and just about everything else she breathes musical life into (even... ICK... "Herald's Creed.") She could read my philosophy textbook out loud and make it sound wonderful. *Sigh.* She's indeed got a siren's voice. If could only save one recording from my collection, it would be any one that she sings on (and Leslie Fish DOESN'T!!!!!<-- look, 5! [sorry]) I have GOT to get _Wanderlust._ Zha'hai'allav'a! ======================== Rynath (OIB) / Jake ===================== "How could it?" Tom asked. It wasn't that long ago that Jenneke was complaining much the same thing, only her way of putting it was something like "All the best men are gay, dead or fictional. And the very best (Vanyel) is all three)." I didn't like it myself, they didn't match styles very well. It had the inconclusive / plotless feel that I associate with MZB's books, had Misty-type characters, but one of the main characters dies more or less pointlessly. And it had a few other things I didn't like at the time. All in all, not up to Misty's normal standard IMO and her additions to the book were enough to tear me out of the normal MZB induced hypnosis where I just let the words flow past. As you can tell, I'm not a great MZB fan, though I do read her work.. Add IMHO's to taste. Beat lightly & stir to smooth consistency. I will check this tonight... Mel. ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 396 *********************************
