The MOC _can_ die, as evidenced by the fact that there are different ones in LHM and the Arrows series. Yes, most Companions do die when their Heralds do, but the MOC is special -- when his Herald dies, he goes in search of a new Chosen (AotQ). Since the MOC "never seems to age", I would guess they don't die of natural causes, or, if they do, it takes them a lot longer to do it then it would for the average Companion. I would guess that the primary way for an MOC to die is to be killed (since it's a fairly hazardous job). He might have been wrong, but in his mind, what he was doing was good and right. Lores had nothing personal against Tashir, he was just fighting was he had convinced himself was a threat to Valdemar. 'Lendel knew what he was doing was just a matter of revenge. In fact, he purposefully kept Gala out of his mind, so she wouldn't try and stop him, because he knew it was against the Heraldic ideal. I know, I know, all the best intentions. . . . but that could be why Lores was not repudiated, and 'Lendel was. -+AT+->--- Stormcloud In the name One in Black of the Moon Jenna, the Misty maniac I'll punish you! jwil3969-+AT+-simcl.stjohns.edu ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Mar 1996 12:28:08 EST From: "Stormcloud" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Hunks Message-ID: <8E7F884FF5-+AT+-SIMCL.STJOHNS.EDU> > Tue, 5 Mar 1996 08:50:54 GMT > > Tayla said "Yummmmm. . . I would change for him, I swear it! :b.... This an on-going argument between me and my best friend: Her: Darkwind! Me: Firesong! Her: Darkwind!! Me: Firesong!! Hey, you're the one spitting sand. (For the second time IIRC) Silly Jaguar. --Gyrfalcon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~msowers-+AT+-menger.eecs.stevens-tech.edu~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Magic still exists. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Let the magic that is in us roam free in our work, play, in each other, and most of all in ourselves. Let it roam free or it will die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Mar 1996 12:51:46 EST From: "Stormcloud" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Hunky Immortals Message-ID: <8EE4743B7A-+AT+-SIMCL.STJOHNS.EDU> > OK, has anyone here read "Those Who Hunt the Night" by Barbara Hambly? > Don Simon Isidro is truly wonderful. Wrong! Windrider was the Heir of Valdemar, and Darshay was his Companion! :b > To Valdemarians, this happened so long ago that I think it's in the status of > myth to them, so of course everything wouldn't be 100% true-to-real (well, their > real, at least) life. I believe the coat of arms came after the Companions, mostly because I think the "pegasus" is supposed to be a symbolic representation of the Companions that help to keep the citizens of Valdemar from falling once more under the *chains* of tyranny they followed Lord Valdemar to escape. Maybe someone should ask Misty about this. > Do pegasi exist in Valdemar? Well, this doesn't prove they don't. > But, then again, it doesn't prove they *do,* either. Any mage with enough power could probably *make* a pegasus, the way Urtho made the Gryphons. -+AT+->--- Stormcloud In the name One in Black of the Moon Jenna, the Misty maniac I'll punish you! jwil3969-+AT+-simcl.stjohns.edu ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 397 *********************************
