The whole feeling that I get from the Tylendel/Sefen thing is the same feeling that people on Babylon 5 (for those of you who watch the show) got when Talia's identity was revealed to be a deep-cover disguise and that she had a totally different (evil) identity underlyingly. If 'Lendel really needed to come back as something, he should have come back as a Companion. Kris Sorry, but what about Dawnfire? I think she sacrificed quite a lot, her whole life, so to speak. And not to forget Trevalen. Those two didn't precisely end up with unruffled feathers - no, wrong idiom, but I can't come up with an appropriate one now, anyway. And Darkwind's share of sacrificing has had taken place before we saw him in the Winds-books, IMO. And no, I'm not starting with Elspeth again, that's all been said, I think. Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to take the reverse positions. By buying a ticket to a movie, you give that movie financial support (in a small way). You are, in effect, paying the salaries of the actors. Just as you could choose not to patronize a store owner who was known to be abusive, you can choose not to patronize actors who behave in this manner. And if you don't like James Bond's world--don't pay five-fifty to see it. That's part of the beauty of the capitalist system: we're not forced to pay money for things we don't want. It's hard to separate the artist (author, actor, etc.) from his or her philosophy. Would Misty be the same author we know and love if her heroes were gay-bashers, wife-beaters, drug-pushers, etc.? Of course not. And I doubt that many of us would buy books that tried to portray such characters as heroes. We would not respect an author with such views, and I think we would be reluctant to support him/her, no matter how well-written the book was. I remember writing it on Tuesday, but it never appeared on the list. Oh well, so here I go again. Elspeth - definitely Alexandra Paul (sp?); (I mean she was the only reason _ever_ to watch Baywatch); right down to the bitch-part of the character, not to mention the physical one Alberich - Juergen Prochnow (anyone remember Dune? oh shudder). Karse has that rather germanic touch for me and that's not just because of the names. Talia - Helena Bonham Carter (thanx, Heather, for reminding me of her) with fair hair maybe? Kris - what about Paul Gross (sp?), (I mean this Mountie with his deaf wolf- was the series called Due South or the like?), ye gods, just think of that smile, Sherrill - hmm, thinking of smiles, Elizabeth McGovern sorry, but I don't see Faye Dunaway anywhere in here, not after her cosmetic surgery, anyway (and she used to be a good actress) Gary Oldman would nicely do as Dirk, however Ancar - Nicholas Rogers; unfortunately I don't think that "Fantaghiro" (italian TV-fantasy series) will ever make it to US-TV; he was Ancar all the way with that sinister look and who suggested Tim Curry as Firesong? I hope you're kidding. I thought Firesong was supposed to be attractive, sort of. But TC as Orthallen, now that would do. 'nother pertinent question: who will be directing? I noticed that that there are several different elf cultures in there. The Sunfolk, The Go-Backs, the Gliders. The other thing is that after they get over other differences, they all get along. For more books dealing with different races, try Katherine Kurtz's Deryni books. Basically they're about a race called the Deryni who are being suppressed. They're a race with magic, and the *normal* humans use the excuse of the magic being "dangerous" as a reason to persecute them.
