Isn't an unbonded Choosing when the Herald is going to get Chosen by another Companion, like the MOC, whenever that Companion becomes available (i.e. the death of the old MO)? That's what I've always thought. Like when they expected Rolan to choose someone who was already a Herald, presumably that Herald would have had a light bond with his/ her Comp. -+AT+->--- Stormcloud In the name One in Black of the Moon Jenna, the Misty maniac I'll punish you! jwil3969-+AT+-simcl.stjohns.edu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Mar 1996 17:59:54 EST From: "Stormcloud" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Order of reading books Message-ID: <4558E05F66-+AT+-SIMCL.STJOHNS.EDU> Des Davies wrote: > Heyla all! > > First of all I'd like to say hello to all on the list. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Let the magic that is in us roam free in our work, play, in each other, and most of all in ourselves. Let it roam free or it will die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Mar 1996 21:29:36 -0500 (EST) From: Adrienne York To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Random Message-ID: On Tue, 26 Mar 1996, Stormcloud wrote: > Adrienne York wrote: > > I think one gets to pick... as I recall, Shavri declined Consort status, > > so she wasn't in line for the throne. Me-+AT+-library, books-+AT+-home, but, IIRC, Vanyel said to...somebody in MPrice that they were lucky Shavri had declined Consort status, because then she would be next in line for the throne, and she'd be a worse disaster than Jisa, who was really an MO. And people don't always die from their lifebonded's death, and Shavri was super scared of ruling, so I think she *must* have thought there was a chance she'd have the throne. And even if her mechanism for not being Consort was through not marrying, and I'm still not sure that the way it reads she would have had to marry him for that, it does show that there is some possible chocie in how these things go. > > >> What is an unbonded Choosing and what status does it confer on > >> the chosen? I might believe that except for the fact that Vanyel fully expected that he was a reasonable candidate for being MO and he was most certainly tightly bonded to 'Fandes. The only references to unbonded choosings I remember, and that means there are probably twenty of which I don't recall, were all in order for someone to get training if they needed it. _____________________________________________________________________________ L'enfant terrible ayork-+AT+-simons-rock.edu Grand Destinies lead to Grand Funerals. -Mercedes Lackey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Mar 96 22:15:12 EST From: Starlight-+AT+-eden.rutgers.edu To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Eric & Kory Message-ID: < On March 20, Heather Watson asked: < >And does anyone else think that series is currently very < >*unresolved*? Yes, I do that with single books too (_Fire in the Mist_ by Holly Lisle for one)--although I *am* finding out I'm doing it with series of books also... you know you're too involved in fantasy that you go "Well? That is they form part of a series because they have .a theme that runs throughout several books, but each book in the series actually .completes a story in itself. Several books and series come to mind to illustrate .this. .On the other hand, it's almost impossible to read Eddings books in anything but .the correct order. And while I enjoyed the Belgariad, I found it annoying .because there was so much left unfinished at the end of each book. And Eddings .is not the only author that does this. In fact it's much more common to find .this format. Yes! I hate it when you start a new trilogy, finish the first book, and you get a "To Be Continued (Sucker!)" message at the end. I buy fantasy as soon as it's out, often, and leaving readers hanging for a *year* at a time in between books is just cruel. And often you forget just what happened, and have to re-read the *first* books to understand where the *second* starts! It would be different if there was some sort of resolution at the end of the book, like most of Misty's books. I'm talking about those books that end something like "and then, the king turned around and saw...." It's like watching a TV series episode with a TO BE CONTINUED on it. But I do like it when I have the *whole* series (I tend to buy books in whole serieses instead of one by one) and I run from one book to the next (which I do with Eddings.)
