Perhaps someone has suggested it in the meantime but... I'm more than willing (have started in fact) to scour the used book stores in my neck of the woods. I will buy any and all S&S books I can find. I hit 3 bookstores yesterday and came up with one copy of S&S V, which I didn't have so I'm keeping it. Any duplicates I find that have Misty stories in them I will let you all know. At that time, the first person to tell me they want it and are willing to pay my cost (cost of book + shipping) will get it. That simple. I'm not interested in any profit, I just want to see that people who love the work as I do get this opportunity. On the other hand, thru interlibrary loan, I have read EVERY single one of the S&S Misty Tarma and Kethry stories, so they are available. I believe at least 3 of the books came from... Reno? Anyway, they are all out in the Southwest, just not in Phoenix. I asked my librarian, and she found all of them! 1 to 13 (6-13 were available at my library). So don't assume they are impossible to get. I'd love to see others also scouring stores. I would like to get a feel for if people are interested in this "service" and, more importantly, would you be willing to pay the cost? I can't afford to give them away, unfortunately, though I would if I could. So you don't mind his self assurance (Van had the same problem), and you acknowledge that the friendly competition between friends was a necessary component of their friendship, but it's something far more subtle about im that rubbed you wrong. Well, you're in good company, though I'm afraid I can't agree with you. Self-assured about the wrong kinds of things, eh? Well, let's take a look. Kris was vain, though he tried not to be. However, that vanity was well founded. He quite simply was the best-looking guy in whites. Women were litterally throwing themselves at him to get his attentions. That sort of thing tends to give one a solid ego, even if it did make hi blncomfortable. So he was assured that women would wilt over him. Can you blame him? They always had! Talia was the first exception to that rule, so you can hardly hold it against someone for expecting something to happen that always has and has shown no reason to change. Next item, his uncle. He was so sure that his uncle was a good guy. Yeah, that got kind of aggravating, but Orthallen was a very charismatic man, who always appeared to be working for the good of Valdemar. It was only the Heralds who didn't like him (and the companions, but I have a feeling that's part of the reason the heralds didn't like him.), and Kris had some good reasons of his own for defending him. Now, granted, Othallen turned out to be a total sleaze, and some of Kris's rationalizations were pretty flimsy, but his logic was sound. What's more important, though, is that once someone he trusted really drove the point home, he began to think. In the end, even he realized that he had been wrong. And he admitted it, too. I did not cry when Kris died, I smiled. He was at last going on to what he had truly been seeking without ever realizing it. For Talia, I cried. I strongly identify with Kris and continue to see him as one of my favorite characters. I can remember all too clearly when I was placed in the position of teacher, guide, healer and lover to a young woman I knew (who Talia kept reminding me of all through the series). Later, I stepped aside when she found her true love. I look back on that time with a certain fondness, while also hoping fervently that I never have to go through it again. That is why I like Kris. The only way that inheriting from her father would be sexist is if a better qualified and/or older sister of Selenay's father was ignored because of her gender. Look at it: Elspeth was still the Heir-Presumptive when Kris was born. They didn't all of a sudden say, "Sorry, babe, but there's a *man* around now." Since she was in line for the throne and Chosen, she was the Heir, and that was that. I try to see the best possible motivations; it seems like by trying to make Valdemar's system into an evil patriarchy (in Selenay's time; I haven't read LHM recently enough to remember very well--I guess that's what spring break is for), you're seeing the worst Misty's world could possibly be. --Morticia > > On Wed, 27 Mar 1996, Marissa K Lingen wrote: > > > Okay, I don't think people are giving Valdemar enough credit here. Or maybe it is a word in another language, like the Kaled'a'in word for the planet or something. (although I'm sure any Kaled'a'in, Shin'a'in, or Tayledras word for the planet would have at least one apostrophe in it! :) Maybe someone should ask Misty about this one, too. -+AT+->--- Stormcloud In the name One in Black of the Moon Jenna, the Misty maniac I'll punish you! jwil3969-+AT+-simcl.stjohns.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Mar 1996 17:19:09 GMT+0200 From: ROZANM-+AT+-webster.nl (Rozanna McNeer) To: primenet.com!mrtmh-+AT+-enterprise.cistron.nl (Lady 'Reesa And Tina), Subject: Re: 3-fold Goddesses Message-ID: <315abc93.webster-+AT+-mail.webster.nl> Brigid is the goddes of fire, poetry, and mumble (I can't remember the third, but I know there is one!)
