I love their music. It's so different then most of the other music out there. I have both of their albums and I love to listen to it when I'm depressed, happy, sad, or when I'm writing. I listened to it when I wrote up Silvermoon's persona. My fave songs are Silent Warrior, which I play over and over and over and over, and the last section of Rivers of Belief, which I play over and over. I got their second album first, after falling in love with Return to Innocence, which I heard on the radio. I took a gamble and bought the whole album, and it was worth it. Then I bought the first, which is also excellent, except for, umm what's it called? :runs upstairs to get it: The Voice& the Snake, which is, to me, very morbid. I got my sister addicted to it also. We both also love Enya for writing to. She's got a very differnt style that's easy to listen to, and is also good for writing to. (I think I wrote part of Silvermoon's persona listening to this also) Since I'm on the topic, I also like Dave Mathew's Band, but I haven't tried writing to it yet. It's completely different. Any other fans of these three, very different, groups? Now that I've read Magic's Pawn, almost every song I hear makes me think of Vanyel. It's weird, almost eerie, because I turned on the radio when I finished and the next four or five songs could have described Van in some way. Maybe it was just me. I'm a musical person. ObMisty- We know there's lots of music in Velgarth, because there is a Bardic school and Talia played the harp. What I want to know is, what instruments did they have besides the harp and the lute? I think they had a lute. He fixed it so all the > heralds, gifted and non gifted alike, were powering the guardian spell... Ummm... yes, I knew that! That was exactly what I said above. I was only replying to another poster who said that Van became the Guardian of both the North and the East after Savil was killed. I followed this reasoning and asked so who took over Kilchas' and Lissandra's places, since they died before Savil did? But then I remembered that the need for Web Guardians was eliminated with the Web/Guardian/whatever Spell, so Van *wouldn't* have had to take over Savil's place and become both Northern and Eastern Guardian when she died. Anyway, since this explanation doesn't work, it still remains that this Northern and Eastern guardian business is a blooper, unless someone else has another explanation? Sorry for going on and on about this...just wanted to clarify things that's all... Lot's of people die, and not just the bad guys. If you haven't finished the book (I assume you are talking about the novel, not the entire series?) then I don't want to spoil anything for you, but even in the first book, there are a number of deaths. ObMisty: The is no sacrifice on the Summer Tree in Velgarth. And I don't think that something like Van's Final Strike counts. It is one thing to sacrifice yourself in a blaze of glory and battle-fury, it is another to voluntarily give yourself over to a slow, lingering death with no guarantee of success. Oh, Lord! LOL! This is exactly the sort of humor that I was saying seems to be missing from Velgarth. I mean, I realize that there is humor in Misty's writing, but except for that dreadful song, there seems to be a dirth of the kind of short, fast humor that make up the bulk of jokes people tell each other in normal conversation. BTW, on the discussion about prostitution and women's behavior (the Heinlien thread), I heard a comedienne the other day who was doing this routine where she would make some reasonably normal statement and then add some off-the-wall sotto voce comment afterwards. Her closing line was this: As far as dating goes, I've always been old-fashioned: I think the man should pay (for sex). That doesn't mean that the men don't have a chance with me, or the women don't have a chance with her. My grandfather used to do the same thing for Coke... oh and it had to be the original coke.. remember when they had that new style?!? oh that was right out.. It was to him like the devil came in and usurped control of God's domain. (Mind you, that was in his point of view.. since there aren't any devils in my religion.) Just that mailing lists are a place to discuss things and private e-mail is a place to share your social life with the people you meet on the net. Not that *every* post has to be *exclusively* about a Misty book, but we could try to dwell more on subjects that are at least fantasy-related, and on things that people can actually converse about.
