Also, in WoFury, Elspeth remembers that the Ashkevrons were very conservative when it came to new ideas, such as pricking children with needles that had been dipped in plague/pox sores. So, there are diseases. But... now that I think about it, why would they need to use such a treatment? Why not use a healer? Of course, if the treatment works, it would spare the healers to take care of more traumatic injuries. Julia, anxiously awaiting _Storm Breaking_, R. jrudden-+AT+-eskimo.com R. Julia F. Honest!" These comments from Melanie Diamond Harper, listmoderator of the Mercedes-Lackey Mailing List, went unheeded as legions of Mercedes Lackey fans were dragged of by policemen this year at DragonCon '96. At this time, thirty people have been arrested for assault with coconuts, indecent exposure, and loitering. "This is something I have NEVER seen before," said Mr. Otto Schmidlap, tournament organizer for this year's DragonCon. "These people all showed up with white horses and christmas lights and coconuts and proceeded to cause a ruckus all over the place. Damned internet freaks." Deeming themselves the "Misty Maniacs," they proceeded to hold an all-day, all-night celebration of Mercedes Lackey's works. Things got a bit out of hand when the coconuts and levinbolts started flying. The attendees at this year's DragonCon were shocked. "They were group grinding to FILK!" said Lesley Aquatic-living-animal and long time Mercedes Lackey collaborator. "It was ridiculous," said G. Eary Eyegax, role-playing game tsar. "These people were all over the place! It was getting bigger than TSR so I had to call the cops." Marc Rain-Huggen, creator of the Vampire: No, We're REALLY Vampires! Honest! game was surprised, as more people showed up this year at DragonCon to celebrate Mercedes Lackey's work than to pretend they were undead. And Marc Shepherd, friend of Mercedes Lackey, slowly shook his head and snuck out amidst the chaos. After a series of loud "ARCANUM 101! ARCANUM 101!" chants, the police completely shut down DragonCon to prevent further rioting. A belaguared Mercedes Lackey at her home in Oklahoma said, "I have no comment" when asked about the actions of her fans ... Well, when did Van get all depressed - Sovan, Sovvan - summat like like, which seemed to be a general "hair-down, let-it-all-hang-out" sort of occasion, and Kris gives Talia a gift on her birthing day after she's tried to drown him, - the implication being that it's normal to do something with the day. There are suggestions of court festivites - but your average herald would not be "at" court - far too low born! tot ziens, Esmerald Evensbane ******************************************************************************* * Pets are always a great help in times of stress. I wonder if anyone writing about it has even > had any, or if they are just basing it on 'common knowledge'. Well, it's real - I mean willow bark does contain salicylates (or some such) which are the basis for asprin. So infusions of willow bark do bring down fever and relieve pain. As to the taste - when did any herbal infusion taste good? But Jean Auel who does years of research for her books has Ayla doling out various infusions, all of which seem to taste distinctive, if not yucky. > I wonder when teabags were first invented....oh Natoli?? Ahem, they were invented around 1908, by a certain Thomas Sullivan of New York, a tea merchant who wrapped the tea samples he delivered to restaurants for them to taste. He recognized a natural marketing opportunity when he realized the restaurants were brewing the samples "in the bags" to avoid the mess of tea leaves in the kitchens. Of course, if the treatment > works, it would spare the healers to take care of more traumatic injuries. I was going to reply that they didn't use magic/talent to cure/heal, but skills - Devan in his herb room, Talia being dosed up after her run in with the blues, the healer agreeing with Skif that his treatment of the snow plague (??) victims was right, Van's broken arm being treated conventionally - but then realised we have Jaysen "fixing" Van's broken nose, Talia assisting the healer with the afore mentioned plague victims, Van healing Stef's fingers when he'd played for too long - but no evidence of general healing by magic. Now I think about it, why didn't they just "fix" Talia's concussion and pheumonia, or Van's arm when Jervis broke it, Bard Breesa's bad headaches - if healers have the talent/gift to heal by "magic", why don't they? What are all those healers doing, withholding their skills. There's no suggestion of anything other than medical care being given to Talia when she's sick in Arrows - another case of ML developing ideas as she develops the series?? tot ziens, Esmeralda Evensbane ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 9 May 1996 12:09:41 GMT+0200 From: ROZANM-+AT+-webster.nl (Rozanna McNeer) To: isou10.estec.esa.nl!dbackhau-+AT+-enterprise.cistron.nl, Subject: re: Dianora (no Lackey - sorry, :-[) Message-ID: <3191d542.webster-+AT+-mail.webster.nl> > Firemist wrote: > >>Tigana -> did anyone wonder about dianora (I realy can't remember her > >>name, it's dia something) I guess I'm too young to > >>appreciate/understand why she did what she did.
