I don't think it really matters. I started with _Sourcery_(no that isn't a misspelling). The first book was _The Colour of Magic_, I think. Most of them aren't in any particular order. I'll go ahead and post a list of titles that I know. I'm sure any other Pratchett fans here will correct me. I pulled this list from the SFBC edition of _Men At Arms_ Books by Terry Pratchett The Carpet People The Dark Side of the Sun Strata Truckers Diggers Wings The Unadulterated Cat(with Gray Jolliffe) Good Omens(with Neil Gaiman) The Discworld Series: The Colour of Magic The Light Fantastic Equal Rites Mort Sourcery Wyrd Sisters Pyramids Guards! Guards! Eric (with Josh Kirby) Moving Pictures Reaper Man Witches Abroad Small Gods Soul Music Lords and Ladies Men at Arms That list didn't include Interesting Times, Johnny And The Dead, or Only You Can Save Mankind.(The last two are apparently young adult books. I haven't been able to find them.) There is also Maskerade which is only out in the UK at this point I think. There is also a Terry Pratchett website which has a full quote file. It gives you a definite taste of Prachett's sense of humor (http://Lspace.cp.tn.tudelft.nl) Sorry folks for the unrelated post. I grabbed _Winds of Fate_, and was *totally* confused! Before I'd gotten 50 pages into it, I the LHM books came into the library. I admit it's possible they'd both die, but on the other hand, it seems a lot of people survive when there lifebonded dies. Some examples: Vanyel survived Tylendel. Stefen survived Vanyel. Keren survived Ylsa and got involed with Sherrill. The only one I can think of who really died with their lifebonded was Sharvi going with Randall, who depleted her own life energies keeping Randall alive. And Keren most likely would have died if she hadn't bonded to Sherrill, and there was some speculation in-book as to whether Sherrill, Ylsa and Keren would have become a threesome. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Let the magic that is in us roam free in our work, play, in each other, and most of all in ourselves. Let it roam free or it will die. ============================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jun 1996 08:56:48 EST From: To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: next character to die Message-ID: <175A9EB6C38-+AT+-SIMCL.STJOHNS.EDU> Arielle wrote: > I beleive it was Kim that wrote: > >what about Selenay? > >Possible but if she dies chances are Darin would as well since they are > >life bonded. My purpose in joining the list was to discuss the books Misty wrote, not the preference choices made by the list members. Frankly, I haven't seen much of that. I was recieving an average of 10 to 15 messages a day in which some or all of the content was on these personal choices. Was I "wrong" to express mine? I do not think so. I also was not wrong in assuming that I would get flamed. >From above, "while our own personal love lives are certainly not the major >topic of discussion", I must point out that of the 25-30 messages a day which this list averages, 10-15 were related to this topic. (My estimates are just that, estimates). It would and does appear to me, that this and related subjects have indeed been a "major topic". To me, anything which has such weight in the discussion makes it a major topic. I mentioned to someone, (forgot whether public or private, sorry) that if I was totally offended by the choices made by individuals here, I wouldn't have stayed. And that if the subject had not been treated with taste and understanding, I wouldn't have read the books much less have gone out of my way to find a group for discussion of the writers works! ">we have not really previously been called upon to tolerate views". Is this a fair position? Why should *I* be tolerant when my preferences are viewed in this manner? On another note, OBMisty: I found and read Sacred Ground. By accident.... I was in the mystery section looking for a book to read for my *other list*, when I spotted it. Is it common knowledge to the list that this is where to find it? I know I have seen some derogatory comments about it. Once again, I may be in the minority, (as a woman and a smoker, I have been in the minority for years), *but*!, I thought it was entertainingly written, well plotted and had very good characterization. I enjoyed the book. Which section of the library would I find the SERRAted Edge books? And the Diana Tregardbooks? The same street will likely contain lavender, sky blue, yellow and pink houses. Amazingly, there's enough white houses mixed in that they carry it off. The royal blue next to the brick red one did bother my eyes tho....:) ....and yes San Fran does have many brightly painted ladies, but they tend to be of softer hue than those of Bermuda.
