I remember swallowing water and trying to get to my Grandmom, who had a huge grin on her face. She was laughing as she encouraged me. About their ridiculousness. No one seems to have mentioned Free Bard requirements, so I am. I fulfilled the Queen's Own Free Bard requirements, and thus the persona of Free Bard Oriole. Free Bard requirements are not IMHO as ridiculous as the others seem to be. Among the requirements are: Learning to play an instrument(s). Learning to read sheet music. Performing in public. Instrument making. composing a song Writing about your persona's becoming a free bard. writing about your persona's friends/relations. and some of the other things like designing clothing or a recipe. these seem to be much more "on-target" than some of those listed for Heralds. I realize that say, a busy business-person or mommy with no musical background might have a hard time with these, but I think that the point is to get people to learn more about music. It was easy for me. I already played several instruments in several bands regularly. Anyhow, there's my bit of input. -Vrondi a.k.a. Free Bard Oriole a.k.a. Some people (myself included) interpret the scene as Talia daydreaming herself into the book she was reading. Others argued that the book she was reading was historical fiction, where the author took the "real" events of Van and Stef and added a fictional character. After all, the name of "Evalie"'s Chosen is never said. It's all a first person POV. The concordance agrees that it's Talia's daydream though. On the other hand, I still think that the requirements are pretty silly, and I would have preferred to have had to learn something metaphysical. (I later studied metaphysics and martial arts intensively for two years, and somewhat less intensively now, and the major thing I've learned is that reality is subjective. Along with those interesting chi tricks I keep mentioning, I found out that at the quantum physical level, everyone is made up of energy, which you learn real early on when you learn about atoms, and that energy does what you expect it to, which makes scientific experiments sort of useless. Mind you, I've never studied quantum physics, intensively, so what I know beyond that you could painlessly inscribe on my left thumbnail--bitten all the way down, yet--but I am almost good at metaphysics.) I'll get back to you with the exact dates when I figure out what I did with the paper i wrote them on. I know I put it down here somewhere. I'm in the process of teaching my mom and dad how to use the computer and I have a billion papers around with notes for them. I think it got buried in there. Bear with me I will get back to you with the dates as soon as I can. And yes the Pocono RenFaire is gone I forgot. I just got done working a twelve hour shift and my brain was fried because I had two new people that I was susposed to train, plus do my own work. My mind was in vaction mode and after I was the RenFaire message I thought Oh, boy I got two of them I could go to. Oh, well I'll just have to find another one. I answered Tensen's question to another message , but yes it is gone I forgot. Like I said in the other I was worn out and I was drolling over the thought of being able to go to two of them. I'd love to get together at the faire. I think a gathering is a good idea. Just let me know when if you all out in e-mail land decide to do that. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 1996 12:33:53 -0700 From: hallett-+AT+-sprynet.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Another new one, reqs. and other stuff. To Dass (and everyone else interested): SpiritBlade and I will eventually type in the requirements for the herald, Tayledras and healer personas. We do have a scanner, but our photocopies of the herald and Tayledras requirements are so poor that they will not scan in properly, but we will type them in when we have a bit of spare time. Silver Dove is working for healer status so I will try to get those requirements off of her soon and make them available to you. We don't have the bard requirements, so I can't help you with that one. It saved me from to distrub the mountain of papers. I don't now your name because I made yet another oops, I accidently deleted your message. There is information on the web about the PA RenFaire. It is from August until mid October in Mt. Hope, Pa. They have different themes for some of the weekends, for example a mid-eastern themed one including belly dancers(okay stop the heavy breathing, people) and a Scottish themed one including guys in kilts(I wonder what's underneath). There is also special pricing for larger groups. The faire starts at 10:00 am and ends at 6:00 pm and costs $15.95. There is a two dollar discount if you dress in period costume. If anyone wants to know anything else either e-mail me on the list (or privately at mishi-+AT+-prolog.net) or you can check out the website for yourself.
