I'm not sure anyone will die either; but if they do it will be a main character in this series. I also don't think Lackey has ever been guilty of killing a character just because somebody has to die. Yet far away the gentle ring of chimes challenges the stillness. A breeze stirs the shifting ashes, all that is left of poor Glithoniel. A small black form emerges from the mists, exasperation sparking in her bright green eyes. Sitting at the edge of the spreading ashes, the little black cat curls her tail about her and begins. Paws flicker and ears turn about in patterns no human could know. A faint glow of silver encases the drifting ash. Barely discernable at first, it grows brighter and deepens. From silver to blue from blue to violet, the glow changes, coalesing into a spinning vortex of light. The chimes increase in distant harmony--the wind given a voice. A silent flash lights the glade, blinding any watchers to the moment of miracle. Glithoniel, clothed now in violet, blue and silver, moves out of the fading glow. With a whimsical smile, she glances the way the Mage of Green Silences has gone. A sound grows through the silence--laughter as light as an evening breeze. With silent bows to the absent Mage and the one present, she slips through the mists and is gone. The lithe black cat departs in a separate direction, muttering at the perversity of mortals. Firstly, I'm officially back from San Jose and my trip to visit Lady Kittengirl. :) It worked. I don't know if this is a first, but the list has produced a 'bonded (no, 'Reesa, we didn't get engaged YET) real life couple! Unfortunately, I had to come back here to New York (I *did* come home, Stormcloud!) but wahey. Everything's froopy with us. Just for listgossip since I know at least ten people who are going to ask anyway. And no, we haven't set a date for the wedding yet. Excuse me... __________________ Onto the real meat of the message... Alright. Kitten and I saw Dragonheart Friday night, and she remarked that the technique they used to animate Draco would be *perfect* for the gryphons in the Misty movie! The SFX on Dragonheart were remarkable. Absolutely astounding! And to do a gryphon that way would be fantabulous. Who did we have Sean Connery doing anyway? Jadrek, Alberich, Withen. Well, I think he would do a GREAT Trevyan. That's prolly because of the movie, though. ________________ Finally, another Misty thing that popped up this week. We went to this restaurant in Santa Cruz/Capitola called the Shadowbrook. I tell you, this restaurant looks like an ekele! Kitten said it looked like a vale. The restaurant is built into the side of a hill, and ivy and flowers and greenery grow all around and over it. It was great. And it looked sooo cool. Just a little Misty reference for anyone up in Santa Cruz, California. So I went and threw it in a deep ditch out behind the school, knowing they wouldn't get around to sending me the bill for months! Procrastination. It worked! For all I know, bits of plastic that once coated the cover are still there... Kristin ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jun 1996 22:18:46 -0700 (PDT) From: "Kristin A. Before, I was on the school computers, making it very difficult to use references from my own books. Now, here I am, sitting in my living room, with all my Mercedes Lackey books behind me, and I can just turn around and grab. Whether sadly or not, I don't think I even should have bothered. I knew exactly what I was looking for... Even turned to the right page on the first try. *sigh* Have getting a real life on the list of priorities, right after learning flemish.) Anyway, I believe it does say, straight out in the novels, that Talia is a mind-healer. In Arrow's Fall, right at the beginning (I can't give page references -- I invested in a hard cover book that has all three of the series in it. *sigh of contentment*), when Kris and Talia are talking before they get to Haven. "It was a -- kind of twist on a mind-Healing technique" she says... There's other hints of it throghout that series. (I was sure there was some mention of it in Storm Warning, but I don't know that book nearly as well. *sigh*) Anyway, can someone tell me exactly what this concordance thing is? I'm woefully misinformed about Lackey Fandom... *sigh* >Mat >Cat Person and Adept A very good combination, if you ask me. *smile* >"Sleep well, and dream of large women." > (slow smile... that was an excellent film, was it not?) I don't know about *your* history prof, but both of mine have four classes (at a minimum) a semestre, with an average of 90 students a class (small classes! I love it!), with at least two essays assigned a semestre, with at least two exams that have essay requirements a semestre (usually three, and that's two essays an exam). If I submitted ANYTHING to my profs for them to read, they'd shoot me. If they could read it. (I do know this -- I'm working on a novelization of the life of Catherine the Great, and tried to get my Russian History Prof to read it. He said he'd get back to me when he had a moment. That was the beginning of last semestre.) Trouble ** Of the Chief Parts of the Ruling Passion, only this can truly be said: Hate has a reason for everything. If there is one, I've long since broken it :) I've never heard of one, but that dosent mean there isnt one.. > Actually, my problem is a little different. I'm not in school anywhere at all anymore, so I dont have anything even remotely related to a history teacher or professor. And I think my boss would look at me very strangely if I handed her an essay on partical physics and asked her for extra credit :) However, when I was in college, our standard size for a class was 15-20 (I think the official standard size was 17). But then the school only had a total of about 2,500 undergrad students. Small. I think also, that any of my prior history teachers would reccomend me for psychiatric evaluation if I showed up one day in the future with an essay in hand and asked for extra credit ;) Zhai'hai'allav'a Dass ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 603 *********************************
