Actually, the best search engine that I have found to date is Hotbot. Its put out by Hotwired magazine's homepage, and it is much more extensive than anything else I've seen. And I used to sear by Alta Vista. ;) Hotbot lets you search for 'all words', 'most words', 'the phrase', 'the person' or 'the URL'. And thats just at the basic search level. It gets more extensive from there. It lets you search by dates, and by location, both in cyberspace (.com, .edu) and geographically (by continent). Its really incredible. In case you don't know, this is the company that sells the tapes of Misty's filk music that you see in the backs of some of her books. The concordance is a collection of names, places, people, things, songs, etc. to be found in the Arrows trilogy, the "Stolen Silver" short story, and the two albums from the trilogy ("Heralds, Harpers, & Havok" and "Lovers, Lore, & Loss"). Like a glossary sort of. No such thing!! Do I have a story? You bet I do! Last summer I was a newbie to the whole Internet/on-line experience. We started out with AOL. I soon navigated my way to the prolific and friendly Arrows-On-Line group. After a couple of months there, HollyWynn(or was it Mystraithe--horrors, my memory must be going!) posted a message about the Georgia Ren-Fest, inviting anyone in the area who was interested to join him and his friends there. Well, I'd never been to such a thing(ok no gasps of surprise or horror. I don't even think there is a RennFaire in South Carolina. Civil War re-enactments--yes. RennFaires--no.). So, I thought why not. Atlanta, GA is only three hours away. That isn't very far since its interstate most of the way. So I took a chance and said I'd go. There were four of us from Arrow-on-Line plus various companions we brought with us. I guess there were about 10 of us in all. It was incredible!! The whole group bonded really fast. Maybe Misty's writing attracts people of similar minds or something; but it was like a line from Gonzo's solo on the Muppet Movie--"there's not a word yet for old friends who just met". The day flew by. At the end of it I had a whole new group of friends. We all get together occasionally just to party. The most interesting part of the tale is that two of the group fell in love and are getting married this fall. I don't think Holly and Amy would have met any other way. Any of you that are going to be at Dragon*Con can look me up for the full tale(heck! Look me up anyway. I like meeting new people of like mind). The moral of this story: It never hurts to take chances. Glith "Happiness is like a potato salad -- when shared with others, it's a picnic." Through Arrows-On-Line I met up with a group of people who live in my general area(I'm in South Carolina, they're in Georgia--poor things). The first general invitation was issued to the Arrows group at large. Did anyone in the area want to go to the Georgia Ren-Fest. There ended up being four of us from the Arrows group with various companions. We all sort of clicked. I hadn't had that sort of experience since college. I think its because we all have common interests. The most interesting thing that came out of it was that two of the original four are now engaged to be married in October. Talk about the hands of Fate. I doubt Holly(a guy-he was a Christmas baby with creative parents) and Amy would have met otherwise. So take the chance guys. You'll definitly expand your list of friends who read Misty. We all get together occasionally and party. (Like Dragon*Con -- where I'll be a real neophyte but I expect that Mystraithe will nursemaid me through it like any good friend would). After you have aquired 25 points, you may be chosen. Remember to create your persona first and then roll for your gifts. A chosen must learn to cope with his gifts, not have his life built around them. Most gifts manifest late in life and are not evident at birth. GIFTS AND TALENTS: Determine your gifts by rolling a six sided die. HERALDS HONOR APPLIES; what you roll is what you get. If you roll the same # twice, you have that gift in double strength. Do NOT roll again for different gifts. You will always have limited mindspeech with your comanion in trance. 1-3 = one gift 4-5= two gifts 6= three gifts To determine which gifts you have, roll 2 die (or one die twice and add the #'s) 2-8 mindspeech 9-10 Fetching 11 farsight 12 wild talent For wild talents, roll one di. 1 empathy 2 Foresight 3 firestarting 4 Mindhealing 5 healing 6 Animal mindspeech Well, that's basically it guys and gals. There are some more specific clarifications that would really only be of interest to Queen's Own members who intend to have there persona recognized by the club. For those of you who are in Queen's own and are intending to submit a persona, make sure you write Judith or the Gaurdian of the Web for the finer details! I noticed that Lady Silvermoon typed in most of the rquirements for the Tayledras personas already, so I won't reiterate what she's already given you, but she did neglact to mention that you also must write a biography on your Tayledras persona as well as a bio for one or more friends or relative characters. As I mentioned, I don't have a copy of the Bards Reqs. so I can't help you there. I will try to get a copy of the healers reqs. off of Silver Dove the next time I see her. Hopefully I'll be able to get those typed in next weekend for those of you who are interested. To everyone out there interested in seeing if we can get the Herald-Mage requirements changed, I'm willing to help once we decide how to go about this. I know someone out there mentioned reading Dr. Suess, but now I can't find the message again (of course). Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only person who's age consists of double digets that still heartily enjoys the wonder that is Dr. Suess! This is definitely an interesting, fun group of people. I am working on a persona and hope to submit it soon. I got the set when I was about ten, and didn't want it, but then my mom read them to my brother and me, and I fell in love with them. :) When I have time, I sometimes pull them out and reread them. :) I too read CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. Don't remember how old I was (2nd or 3rd grade?), but it was one of the first books I read. When I found out I was pregnant in 1991, I eagerly started ordering the books so that my child could also enjoy this book. (okay, okay, so I may have been a little early). I read to him every night and he sees me reading often enough that he knows it is a worthwhile way to spend time. My son will soon be five and is beginning to learn to read. I can't wait until until I can introduce him to Narnia, and to the world of imagination. His father isn't very impressed with my favorite genre, but I would be pleased with subject my son chose to read. He does seem to be partial to wildlife (dogs, bears, horses, dragons) books. He is also very creative...the explanations of why it rains and how houses are made are pretty interesting. Also, the explanations of why he should watch another tape before going to bed, or why he really can't pick up his toys are pretty imaginative. Ob: Misty - I would really like to read a book on Aberrich's life. It seems like it would be pretty fascinating. Is there one? To: Subject: Politically Correct Coercsion Message-ID: <09JUN96.18258417.0156.MUSIC-+AT+-NEMOMUS> Few days behind and not quite caught up, but had to say this: Not too long ago, an ex of mine was sobbing on my shoulder, because some freak or freaks had nailed a sign across the door of the house she shares with a gay male friend that read "Two Gay Rights: AIDS and Hell" I don't suppose they understood either. Frankly, I'm beyond caring what they understood or how they felt about Melanie and me, or Melanie and her current girlfriend, or Clint and his dates, or anything else. I am beyond caring who disapproves, and I am WAAAAYYY beyond caring about this "politically correct" scare tactic. Have you noticed that it's always the people like Melanie who get hurt, and the people who feel they have something to say about other people's lives who get to whine around about how we're being too politically correct? It's not about politics, damn it, can't people see that? It's about love, and honor, and compassion, and justice, and not causing pain to your fellow human beings. When someone says my preferences are bent and abnormal, and that God would like to see me stoned, all I can think about is how sweet Melanie is, how she likes absolutely everyone, and how totally devastated she was by that whole tawdry, sick incident. Don't tell me what you understand, support, like, or anything else. You don't know one thing more about it than I do, and your feelings are no more valid than mine, and certainly shouldn't have to influence my behavior. What I do is between me, my partners, and my God. We have an understanding, and if you're not in on it, hard luck. Keep your bloody judgements to yourself. You think I haven't heard it before? Sorry, everyone, for the flame. It's just that, damn, I can't get over what happened to Melanie. This I really didn't need today. I'll be more loveable some other time. I am always using things for bookmarks.. receipts, movie tickets (the other day I found a movie ticket to "Return of the Jedi" stuck in one of my old books)... I don't think I ever purchased a bookmark per se. But then again, some people like the piece of cardboard with tassels. I don't think I've ever written on any novels, although I have marked up several of my college textbooks. I think my college-level Russian textbook from high school (which I have here on my desk) has music lyrics written on the blank pages in the beginning and end. The class was sooo boring!
