Yes, I know "Valdemar" is a real name, but still!! Stop the bus! I want a one-way ticket, please! ::ahems, suddenly becomes serious:: You know, for a book-lover, I generally have trouble when asked what books have influenced my life. With one exception--the LHM trilogy definitely did. As I began to identify & sympathize with Vanyel, I started thinking about, and ultimately questioning and redefining a lot of ways of thought that I had either never considered changing and/or had swallowed whole from my parents. For this reason alone, good story aside, I'll always love those books. Okay, I'm done now!!! On a lighter note--does anybody know the names of any tapes by Tempest? A local magick-shop has some tapes labeled by that name, but I have to wonder if it's the same guys. I can't imagine how they would have reached Arkansas (yes, that's where I live), so I'm skeptical. I have no problem finding Gael Baudino books in my favorite used bookstore here, but I find Misty maybe, *maybe* one book every two months or so. Currently, I'm reading Baudino's _Strands of Starlight_, _Shroud of Shadow_, etc. books. The first one I read was _Gossamer Axe_, and I have to say it wasn't nearly as good as these. To add another not-even-remotely-on-topic item to this, anybody know of any fantasy set in Japanese-like worlds? Anyway, in "Arrow's Fall", in the scene where Talia goes to visit Devan for the first time, right after she gets back from her internship, he says something about being glad to see her back, and she says something about hoping that's because he wants to see her for her own sake, and not because they need her. And he reassures her that he has no Heralds for patients at the moment, and goes on to say: "Rynee will have her Greens by winter; she's got every intention of going back South to be stationed near her home. You're back in good time; you'll be the only trained mind-Healer besides Patris here when she leaves, and it's possible we may need you for patients other than Heralds." (p47 of the US edition) Later, in the same book, Talia goes to help out when Destria first arrives at Healer's. Talia 'talks' her into letting the healers help her. In this section it says that Rynee's Gift of Healing (like Talia's) is for minds rather than bodies. (p84 of the US edition) Then Talia and Rynee talk about how they can help Destria later. Talia suddenly gets an idea, and Rynee says: "Out with it, milady -- you've the same Gift as I have, and if you've gotten a notioin it's probably going to work." What's funny is that I haven't gotten a *real* hug from any of my family and friends, and I'm a person who needs hugs. :) Ah well, the only place I usually get hugs is here and at Antioch, which I haven't been to for two weeks. Thank you again for caring. All you have to do is go up to the librarian and tell him/her that you would like to request some books on interlibrary loan. I do that all the time to determine if I really want to buy a book or not. And, as a librarian myself, I know that most librarians are quite happy to take a request. (As you might guess, my library carries Lackey books! ;-)). There are a few libraries that charge a fee to cover mailing the book, so you should ask about that. (Mail charges should not be higher than $2.00.) If they charge a fee, you will be notified up front. In fact, I would have trouble deciding which bookcase to save, let alone which books. (Maybe I can save 10 bookcases?... ;-)). Hey, I'm proud to be a GS!! I'll admit the cookie and nut business is really annoying, but GS is a great way to bond. I met a lot of really wonderful people through GS and GS camp. It's also a great way to grow and learn more about yourself and others. I went through Daisies, Brownies, Junior GS, and am now a Cadette, and I have never regretted one moment. (Except maybe when I showed a dance I invented that went with a My Little Pony song to my fellow Daisies (I was in Kindergarten, what do you want! :) )) But GS has given me a lot of opportunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise. I guess I am now Devil's Advocate, huh? :) Lady Kadessa... ------------------------------ Date: 10 Jun 96 21:29:17 EDT From: Jake <102744.2515-+AT+-CompuServe.COM> To: M-L mailing list Subject: Re: WTTF? In the recent SFBC Brochure, where they list all the Misty books, they put a picture of *A DIFFERENT* BY THE SWORD. It's a book by Greg Costikan (Magic of the Plains, Volume 1). There's a pic of Van, Tarma and Kethry, Talia, and then this Dragon! And I looked at it and went, WHAT?!?! So which BTS do you mean, anyway? I couldn't stay for 10 books... I think I'd wind up doing what Diana mentioned with the Librarians and Alexandria. I'd probably wind up burning alive trying to save my books. >> Now, what about disks and music? Do they count as books? If they do, then I have to revise this list. If it's just books, then I'm okay. << Bright Lady, if I needed to save ten pieces of MUSIC, I'd be in trouble. I'd save: 10 Shadow Stalker / Heather Alexander (Of COURSE!) 9 Black Aria / Glenn Danzig (instrumental. Not Danzig the band) 8 The Immortal Kiss of the Vampire (instrumental--great tape) 7 Chronicles / Rush (the BAND, not the fat guy) 6 Pastpresent / Clannad 5 Let It Begin Now / Starhawk and Friends 4 John Henry / They Might Be Giants 3 Songs from the Discworld / David Greenslade 2 Bones / Gabrielle Roth and the Mirrors (Khenta! I love that tape! Thank you!!) 1 Hour of Restoration / Magellan BTW, 'Reesa, you just want me to like Jordan so I can do humor for that newsletter. I know.
