Something about a council I think, I'll look it up. About the free-will.... I just read Oathbound, and I remember Tarma and Kethry having the argument about being wrapped in gauze and protected. Then Tarma sayd some Shin'a'in proverb like, True love can not be bound. How could you really love a mindless creature? We wouldn't miss it, but God certainly would. You're right, we wouldn't care at all, we would just do whatever we were told to do, sounds like a bunch of brainwashed worshippers. Think from God's point of view, which would make the worship and love mean more, if they had to worship you, or if they chose to. If they chose knowing that they have picked a harder path in life just to follow you? Doesn't that make it all the more meaningful? He loved us so much, that he wanted us to be able to make our own choices, he didn't want to smother us and protect us, wanted us to be able to live free. I know for me, the love is that much real and stronger because I choose it,because I realize how much love He has, and that makes me love Him even more. If I were mmindless, I wouldn't really care one way or the other, and that would be extremely sad. *^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_*^_ Lady Becky, Goddess of Stress & Dry Breakfast Cereals Everybody wants prosthetic forheads on their real heads *They*Might*Be*Giants* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jun 1996 10:51:07 -0700 From: "Amy, Alice, & Jim Trivitt" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Gods, Heralds &Library, and etc. Message-ID: <9606221751.AA29233-+AT+-mail.coos.or.us> Gods A lot of speculation is going around with what I started with the comment "Does anyone know why Kalendra and Vkandris broke up?" I definitely do not suggest going to a country bar, sidling up to a six foot person wearing boots and a cowboy hat and asking to see his neck! Many refer to themselves as rednecks and are darn proud to do so. On the more sober side, this was a question asked of curiousity. I didn't think name calling or labelling was intended. Wanted to show that when one hears the term 'redneck', there were other qualities also referred to, not just the negative ones that were listed. Nor was it at all suggested to call anyone fitting the loose, generic description a redneck. Just an explanation of the term. Or are they totally made up characters that looked neat so they put them on the cover? Fay would be the blond one right? The dark-haired one does *not* look like Di. (Or at least not like I envisioned Di) Geez, I'm babbling. Better stop now huh? Okay I'm finally getting back to everyone about my offer to make something for everyone on the list. Chen-Chen, Lady Wintersong and i have been bouncing ideas back and forth and we have come up with idea of perhaps making a keychain. We were thinking about using a combination of feathers, metallic beads, seude, and crystal beads to make them. Due to the fact that there is such a large variety of people and personalities on the list, a keychain seems about the best idea. If someone doesn't wish to use it as a keychain they could also hang it by their computer. Please either e-mail me at mishi-+AT+-prolog.net or on the list if anyone is interested in this idea and would like Chen-Chen, Lady Wintersong and I to make them one. Please let us know what kind of colors you like as well. I just thought that I would addd my two cents (if I could just afford it). I spent most of my life in Hong Kong, and my first language was Cantonese. I've also studied Mandarin for a few years. Anyways, Cennydd suplied an example, that of "ren" and "jin", both meaning something close to "person" (not quite...but close enough). Anyways, I wanted to point out that for the same character, that same word can be pronounced QUITE differently between different dialects in China itself. For instance, the same character would be pronounced something like "yan" in Cantonese. (Of course we are all neglecting tones just for clarity) Bless, Ailima. Ps. again, sorry for the off-topic note! I had to add something because it's a topic I knew about. As you can tell, my self-control is terribly lacking. :( ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Jun 1996 21:49:54 -0400 (EDT) From: skarzin-+AT+-soonet.ca (Tony and Michele) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: books on loan Message-ID: <199606230149.VAA01516-+AT+-victory.soonet.ca> > > >On Sun.June 23 you wrote: > >I thought that was not so much a matter of not trusting the Heralds to >return a book as of making sure that the books are available in a central >place if needed. It is one of three books that she owns. Also in AOQ, (pg 13) Talia has been sneaking into her father's library. Books couldn't be all that rare.
