The other two are the scapula(the flat bone on your upper back) and the humerus(the bone of your upper arm). So treating her for a broken shoulder is somewhat correct if not completely accurate. I would think that you have to be able to "see" the item being Fetched, so you would have to be familiar with it, but only to a certain extent. Familiar enough to know what it generally looks like, at least. In AFlight, when Dirk was teaching that one girl (what was her name?) how to Fetch, he gave her a matching message tube and a description of where it was located. Though true, she was still learning how to do it, it might be different for someone who's been Fetching for a few-odd years. I think to be able to Fetch something that you dont actually know the location of, you would have to be linked in with someone with Farsight, such as in the section of AFlight when Talia linked in with Dirk and Kris to retrieve the arrows from Ylsa. Dirk actually had to "see" where the arrows were before he could get them. It all depends on which book you have.<<< Excuse me, but that is ridiculous. This is exactly what I have been talking about. If a religion changes in its fundamental beliefs and identity depending on which book you read, then it hardly qualifies as a religion. However, it is a moot point. Wicca is not the same thing as witchcraft. Your book is right to some extent: "witchcraft" is the term that was used to refer to pre-Christian pagan religions. However, lest we forget, "witchcraft" refers to Satanism, folkloric magic, and a sundry other things. It depends on the time and place, but certainly there has never been a time when the term "witchcraft" did not properly include Satanists. That is why many Wiccans prefer not to use the term "witch." And I still maintain that "Wicca" (as an organized religion) is a new tradition that is loosely based on several of the British pagan traditions. (BTW, if the book you are quoting is the one I think it is, I am not impressed. While it is certainly a good basic introduction to the essential concepts that underlying the Wiccan faith, it is not a particularly good book on a purely scholarly level. Certainly, when I read through it, I was not impressed with the author's grasp of history.) -----EOM On Sat, 29 Jun 1996, Raingcats-+AT+-aol.com wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Re: Braid: Contest/True Night/Wicca >>>I have another quote that specifically states that Wicca predates Christianity. So who's right? Or does it just matter which book you look at?<<< I believe that David has already addressed the last question. Wicca started in the 20th century. Witchcraft (in the broadest sense) has existed for most of human history. Hmmmm. You know, practitioners of evil magic in the Navajo culture are called witches (at least, in English they are). If you were talking to a Navajo about witchcraft, they would have a very definite idea about what a witch is like and what a witch does. When you insist on using the terms "witchcraft" and "Wicca" interchangeably does that mean that you are also insisting that Wiccans are evil users of magic? Obviously not! Just because Wiccans have been labeled as witches doesn't mean that everyone who has ever been labeled a witch is also a Wiccan (I hope that the logical fallacy of such a claim is obvious to everyone). Hmmmmm. I think that I am going to ignore this thread from now on, though. I think we have beaten this dead horse more than sufficiently. I will just end with a statement of my position at this point: "While I have the greatest respect for the spiritual beliefs of Wicca and its practicioners, I am less than impressed with the historical awareness shown by many Wiccans. I realize that not all Wiccans are unaware of their history (thank you to Arielle for confirming this), however, a large number of Wiccans that I have met do not seem know much about their own history. I also feel that, if continued, this behavior cannot but have a deleterious effect on the public image of Wicca, since it seems to suggest (at least on the surface) that Wiccans are not confident of their faith and must make up a spurious history to bolster it." -----EOM On Sat, 29 Jun 1996,David Snyder (aka Lady Thess) wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Re: Tithes >>>I offer to (gasp!) Or does it just matter which book you look at? I thought that wicca in it's current form(s) was pretty young, but the things it was based on were pre-Christian. I have done a piece of reading, but it is HARD to find un-biased scholarly things about it. I also have seen (of all things) a _documentary_ on A&E once that wasn't completely hokey. oh, well, he who wins writes history, sooo. Also, most of the folks practising the base religions were country people, and isolated, so , it was pretty much oral traditions, and not written down. makes it harder. _____________________________________________________________ On 28 Jun 96 Tony and Michele wrote: > Can anybody give me some technical advice?
