There are several things I want to reply to, most of which were 
written by Cennydd.

I must say, though, that I was shocked and appalled to read that *you*

(Actually, I think that Jacob is a beautiful name!!)
All of you got off easy, IMO!  My given name, Tamara, also comes from 
Hebrew.  Bad enough that it means (or so I've heard!) palm tree, when 
I'm of the short persuasion.  Worse--there are two Tamaras in the Old 
Testament, both of whom suffered pretty rotten fates.  (One seduced 
her father-in-law, and one was raped by several brothers, IIRC, which 
I probably don't.)  When we studied the OT in college, my professor 
actually commented on it being bad luck to be named after them.  My 
friends had a field day with that one.  Not to mention that Tammy 
sounds like a cutesy six-year-old, and I'm neither!

Like Barra, I think that overly common names can be a royal 
pain!  There was another Tamara Harris where I went to college, and 
she had this nasty habit of bouncing checks.  Which, of course, meant 
that they wouldn't accept *mine*.  One time, I even got dropped from 
all of my classes, because she had overdue library books!


Lady Thess, the second book in the Wrinkle of Time series is A Wind 
in the Door.

Thank you, Ramona!  You reminded me of the time in AoQ, when Elspeth 
*did* complain about her name being ugly.  Talia then told her about 
the previous Queen Elspeths.

Can we clarify the term "pagan"?  All this means is that the person 
doesn't follow the mainstream religion.  This means a Christian in a 
Moslem country (I think they call them infidels), a Hindu in a 
Christian country.  The Christians were called pagans by the ancient 
Romans.

The current connotation for pagan seems to be someone who worships 
the ancient gods.  Although most of the pagans I know are women 
(probably why they were persecuted by men) and worship "the" goddess.
Most are ex-Christians and have been turned off by the male-dominated 
churches.

Storm Warning is out in paperback.  I'm staring at a copy of it right now

get swamped by Trekkers, I'm only *distantly* related to Riker) but everyone

        No, either you aren't odd, or we both are. <G> Actually, I'm not
sure about color, but I do get a very distinct feeling (you might call it
aura). In fact, I scared my family to no end when I was quietly reading
"White Gryphon" one day and I suddenly leaped up yelling "There she is! I
knew Misty wrote at least some of this book!" when I got to a part that
distinctly had her "feel" to it. Hmmmm... maybe I am just odd. <g>

There are lots of names I would pay big bucks not to have.  How about 
Eunice, Euphemia and Dorcas?  I really feel sorry for people whose 
parents think it would be cute to give their children funny names.  I 
personally know Billy Tilly, Wally Wooly and Herbie Kirby. I don't 
think anyone should have to go through life as Mary Christmas either!

My husband is Lithuanian, and although he goes by Tony, his real name 
sounds like something you get burned off at the Doctor's office.  He 
went to school with a girl named Ubicka Galoobic. (try saying that fast
three times!)

You know, after reading the last two paragraphs, I think I LIKE being 
named Michele.  It could be a whole lot worse!

I didn't mean that I ddin't want to LEARN, Diana.  I meant that it seems
like the structure is too rigid sometimes!  <grin>  I learn things all the
time, on an eternal quest for knowledge.  But I don't want to have to sit
and write a research paper <grin> every time I post.

Storm Warning is currently available in paperback. Storm Rising is due 
out in pb in Oct.- again start checking in Sept. It generally takes about 
a year for books to make it into paperback. So since Silver Gryphon came 
out in hc in March, probably won't be in pb 'til after the new year.

About the name Melissa: a baby name book that I pulled off the shelf 
states that the name is Greek meaning honeybee derived  _meli_ which 
means honey. Regardless, it's a pretty name  :)

obMisty: does anyone know if the twins that Need's order worshipped are 
related to the Star-Eyed and Vkandis?

times to email you but the last part of your address the 1 & the 0 part
really got me goofed up.

The "Amy" thing
        Should I tell you now that my name is really AMY?  I was beqeathed
with the evil name when I was born by my mother.  (No flaminging taken from
the messages.  I feel sorry for anyone with an evil-step whatever <evil
grin>)  If it really bothers you that much when I return remind me and I may
change my name (of course I may not just to get back at ya' <G>).  I refuse
to go by Amy Ann though for anyone!!!!!  Just to let you know all Amy's
aren't evil and spiteful I am hardly ever mean to anyone (only when the
individual deserves it.) and usually feel really bad about it afterwards.

P.S.  part of the reason I'm leaving is because of two many people using the

Here's the textevd: AOQ p.227  (Talia is talking to Elspeth).
  "Since you're my friend now, won't you tell me your name?'
   The child flushed with embarrassment. "Promise you won't laugh?"
  "I promise--but I wouldn't laugh anyway."
  "Hulda laughed.  She said it was a stupid name," the child stared at her
lap.  "It's Elspeth."

Of course, this is while Elspeth is still the Brat, so she may have grown to
like her name later.

When I was little I didn't like my name and wanted to be called Illana
(capital i, double small L).  My parents wouldn't go along.  In high school,
one of the girls in my physics class called me (Jules) Verne.

It's another cliff-hanger ending!!  Where did I get the idea that this was a
trilogy?  (Probably because Misty and Katherine Kurtz always write
trilogies).  Anyway, does anyone know how many books are projected for this
series?

She did, remember? In...oh pooh, Arrows of the Queen, <grabbing book> right
after Hulda is dismissed, Talia asked for Elspeth's name and Elspeth said,
"Promise you won't laugh?" and said that Hulda had laughed at her name...and
I would complain. yeesh, and I thought *my* name was bad. <p. 227, btw>

(I was _supposedly_ named after my father, Ron)  IIRC, it means either
'light' or 'honourable', but I'm not sure whether it's Greek or Latin.
Greek, I think.  I've known two other Nora's, one was the real estate agent
who sold my parents their house (made for interesting carrides, with 'big'
Nora and 'little' Nora.) and the other was a scary kid in grade 7.  And it
made for _great_ <note the sarcasm> nicknames in high school, the three main
ones being 'Nora Desmond', 'Desmond', and 'NoraD'.  Yay, team!


And to Rachel, the doesn't-need-to-be-named goddess of the not-so-stupid
questions:  don't leave us completely.  Getting the digest instead of the
regular e-mail might help the number of messages.  And I realize that few
people have replied to stuff we newbies and lurkers have said, but I think
that's because most of the people here have been here for a while, and they
feel like they know each other fairly well.  I always find it hard to fit
into a new crowd (too shy for my own good, I'd rather be reading a book than
be out meeting people, and I absolutely HATE being stared at), and never
know what to say to people.  Anyway, just didn't want you leaving upset, if
you really decide to leave us.

That's enough spouting for now, so I'll shut up (don't anybody look at me, OK?)

I don't have a clue what that woman is supposed to be. Melenna? I don't know
at all. Go fig.

Some of the pictures are obvious. Like, Lissa and Jisa on the cover of
Magic's Promise. But some of that other stuff I don't get either.

Oh well...yet another mystery to solve, eh?
