Message-ID: Okay I'm back from my wonderfully long weekend only to find my email "box" OVERFLOWING!!! this is not a bad thing, just a little bit time consuming. Well there have been several conversations going on and now it's time for Megan to put her two bits in! Okay first things first! To all the newbies who have come and hopefully not gone already--welcome!!! I still think of my self as one of you and please stick arounfd if for no ther reason that the email here can be very amusing and the conversation well interesting at the very least! :) Just give yourself some time to get used to all the stuff going on! and just jump right in (the water's fine!) I hope to see you all sending messages happily now! About whiskers--please don't fret about out fourlegged friends and their whiskers. Friends of my family show dogs and on some of them the whiskers are trimmed. This doens't hurt the woofies one bit and I don't think that it would be widely done these days (especially by any good breeder) if it was detrimental to the animal. In most ways it's just as though they were going to get a "beard" cut, it's nothing but facial hair with a purpose. And if you make sure that you leave the doors open wide enough for the dog/horse/cat/other nothing bad ought to happen. Okay about rennfaires--are there any in the midwest? Iv've never been and I am highly curious! If someone could give me any info..... Okay when I started my whole little comment thing about my name I really didn't thinhk that it would blosssom into a whole ethnography experiment! Wow this was a cool result. I am really amazed at the different place that we all are from. My family (as one would expect with the name megan) is Irish, along with French, Swiss, German, Czech, and a couple little things I'm missing. Apart from nationality my mom's side is jewish, but they haven't practiced in a long time. In any case I am glad to hear that some people like their names, even if they aren/t exactly what we would pick for our selves. (although I'm not sure I would want to pick for myself because I like that my parents pick it. I mean when parents pick a name it's like giving a hope/ dream a name. The only difference is that this particular wish/dream is real. My feeling is that think about what your name is, and the hopes and wishes your parents had about you when they picked it. You just might like your name a bit more afterwards. :) ). To rachel--I'm really sorry people haven't responded to you, I'm kinda new but feelfree to post things and from now on I'll try to keep a lookout and If I have a response I'll send it your way!:) :) :) To lady thessaly: Just a note here. I just wanted to ask since I missed the last ceremony( which was tremendously breath--taking BTW:))is there any chance that I have for deification? I just cannot make up my mind on a choice of subjects. So when i finally do--will I be able to "make the step up"? wiped out from looking at the screeen for FAR too long, megan (the ever uncapitalized one) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jul 1996 13:44:55 -0400 From: Sarah Worley To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Rambling Newbie Message-ID: <199607091744.NAA29949-+AT+-ist.net> On July 9, Kim wrote: > mmm. 62 mails at a sitting. I've been reading Mercedes Lackey since Junior High ('86?) when Arrows of the Queen first hit the bookstore shelves. I've been delighted at how much her popularity has grown since it makes getting her books so much easier. I like her Velgarth series, though the Silver Gryphon was highly disappointing (if the rumor is true that Larry Dixon helped write most of that series, then I wish he would stop). I own all her Velgarth books, including the short stories in Sword and Sorceress concerning Tarma and Kethry (though I think I'm missing VI which I originally thought didn't have a story, but it seems it does). I'm not a Serrated Edge devotee (thought they were poorly written, though I do like modern Fantasy). I'm not a Bard's Tale devotee. I liked the Lark and Wren series (can't think of the world of the top of my head), though the first book in that series with Rune was the best, IMHO. Her co-work with Piers Anthony (If I Pay Thee Not In Gold), well, I think Piers should have let Mercedes Lackey write more of that book and him less. I loved the Ship Who Searched. A delightful world by Anne McCaffrey and I love Mercedes' style. No, I don't refer to her as Misty Lackey. I don't know her. She doesn't know me and I wouldn't presume to use a nickname with one whom I am not familiar. As for the Fire Rose, I always thought Robin McKinley (sp?) did a much better job with the Beauty and the Beast concept. So, there are my opinions. I always assumed that the Companions were whoever they were reincarnated. No "taking over the body", or "growing up". They know they're going to be coming back, they know how, where and in what form they're coming back, I always figured the foaling and growing up stages were to refamiliarize themselves with Velgarth, and to learn how everything has changed since they were around last time. To get all the latest tips from the older Companions. This of course is assuming Companions are a far cry from ordinary and normal standards, which I had always assumed to be the case, though I could be wrong on that. > > Gwyna has the Mage-Gift. Ghost was some sort of Companion mind-healer, wasnt he? What about Karal's buddy.. Florian?.. he's Mage-Gifted (so is Altra for that matter) they both channel through Karal at the end of Storm Warning. How about Sayvil (as a Companion), she is a "Companion who knows about Magic" (end of BTS, no textevd).. would that make her a likely candidate for Mage- Gift.. especially since she had it before? McCaffrey does the same thing in her Pern series... It's deliberately in a different style from the text of the story to set it off from the rest. It's something you read, not something you watch like the rest of the book... just picture Talia or somebody standing up in front of a class of newbie Heralds and reading the History of Velgarth 101 textbook to them... you get the idea... - Sal %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% % % % Somebody should have labeled the future 'Some Assembly Required.' % % % % - Michael Garibaldi % % % % Here's to the Assembly Line! % % % % - Sal Robertson % % % %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jul 1996 16:24:10 -0400 (EDT) From: Jake To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-vanyel.herald.co.uk Subject: Re: A Whole Wide World of Misty Message-ID: <1.5.4.16.19960709162442.08ff7920-+AT+-webspan.net> At 09:07 PM 7/9/96 +0100, Spencer wrote: >> No... if I remember correctly, Misty's *target* audience for the Velgarth >> books [no textevd, so leave me alone] was teen-age-ish females. The first thing is called Po Sum On, and it's like Tiger Balm, but more mild, and MUCH better smelling, it's got Dragon's Blood, Tea Oil, Peppermint Oil, Cinnamon Oil, and Eucalyptus Oil in it. Rub it in real deep, and enjoy the smell, which will clear your sinuses. It's also good if you have a stuffed up nose, the peppermint oil helps clear it. Now, if you're like me, you bruise at the drop of a hat, and the second thing is a bruise liniment, it helps clear up the bruises faster, it's called Dit Da Jow, I think that's how you spell it, and it's 70% alcohol with herbal extracts. I personally like the smell, but my boyfriend doesn't. Enjoy. By the way, Tannim is one of my dream men.
