My horse would be jet black; I'd generally ride bareback unless I needed stirrups to stay on (i.e. in extreme situations!). I would have signed up before they went to Valdemar, and moved to Valdemar with them for the fight... Macintosh users often don't like PCs and PC users often don't like Macs. Because either : a:they learned on Blank platform, and are used to it or: b: the style of the platform suits them. When you say most compatabile what do you mean? Macs have far less volume of software compared to PCs. When I got my first computer everyone I knew said "get an IBM, there's nothing for Macs." I know this isn't nearly so bad now, but even the creators of the macintosh acknowledged that this was the principal reason that Macs didn't gain more wide-spread popularity. There is also a big price difference. Many of the Internet apps and other things have only been developed on Mac in the past couple years, so most people were already turned to PCs for all the above reasons. -Vrondi,"Mistress of the Air, One With the Trees" a.k.a. Here they are: Magic's Pawn Magic's Promise Magic's Price Jinx High Burning Water Children of the Night Knights of Ghosts and Shadows Winds of Change Oathbound Oathbreakers Secondly, I was wondering if there were any kind souls out there willing to help. Its an arduous project, as it concerns going through all the books, typing in all the excerpts, referencing them, etc. I have a fuzzy idea of assigning different series' to people, or singular books if it works better for them. I'd offer to help, but I'm swamped with stuff for the big general Misty Compendium Of Just About Everything She Has Ever Done In Her Career aka the Misty COJAESHEDIHC, or FAQ for those who do not like long acronyms. Once again, in the words of Astro from The Jetsons, "RELP!" I had assumed that she meant LIFEbond, however, I concede the fact that she probably means bonded as in with the feather and ring thing. Like the one of Elspeth in the Winds books. *shudder* Then again, the one I have with his and Misty's signature on it (a gryphon) is alright. Perhaps because personally my artwork is just black and white line art. Not this pencil stuff that Larry seems to do. His drawings are alright, except the ones in the latest Storms series are kind of hokey. The big banner of Valdemar in the second one isn't even the RIGHT banner! There's no stars! It sure doesn't match the seal he did on the Companion drawing. *sigh* I'm not going to buy one of his portfolios, no matter HOW tempting. But I think his drawing of Solaris was very cool. Listen up folks! Lifebonds are NOT fun. I wouldn't have one on a silver platter. It may seem like a neat idea but there's always the rub! Like having a Companion--it means you're always risking your life for others. You have to give, give, give and seldom take. A Healer is much the same way(I ought to know, my Mom's a nurse. She can't just ride by a car accident. She always stops to offer help even if the ambulance is already there). They are always on call. Imagine being tied at the deepest phsycic(sp?) levels to a person. Every emotion they have you have. If they die--you are likely to die(Vanyel only survived because of Yfandes, Keren only because of Sherril) as well. If you lose your lifebonded, then you lose a major part of yourself--half your soul. It isn't a risk I'm willing to take. It was hard enough for me to nurture the strong love bond I have with my husband. I don't have a life bond. I do have a strong love bond(which formed at first sight.) which leaves me free to operate as my own person while being strongly tied to Mark. We will have been married 7 years in September. I still can't believe its that long! We've already started into the semi-spoken conversation stage(anyone who's been around long-time married couples may have noticed this capability. Its a form of telepathy that comes from constant close contact.) Its also something we have to work at. Lifebonded couples have to be together. It is physically painful for them to be apart for very long. Love-bonding takes a lot of patience and a lot of work. If we fail to maintain the relationship together, then the relationship fails. It has to be an effort on both our parts. Now, all of the above about love-bonds are my personal opinions. There is text to support much of what I've said about life-bonding. If you want textevd., I'll dig it out but unfortuantely I don't have the time (or space) to do so in this post. OK, end speech. Catwoman listed known or suspected Lifebonded pairs from the Velgarth books. I hate to be picky but I want your evidence on the following: Amerdrake and Winterhart(but I think you're right there), Treven and Jisa, Kero and Eldan, Treyvan and Hydona(Who BTW have a fairly typical marriage relationship). No flame, I just want you to prove it. Mooncloud: You mentioned Kethry and Jadrek as lifebonded. I want your evidence as well (and no I'm not a lawyer but I did major in English in college. I had an excellent professor who encouraged us to come up with wild theories, but we had to support them with concrete evidence from the book. So, I just can't help it. I was trained this way. *shrugging helplessly*) Korendil: >>Well, I just thoroughly reread the middle of the beginning of Pawn, and there was never the click.<< Uhm, here I go again *sheepish grin*. Who besides Selenay and Daren had a Click? It didn't happen with Talia and Dirk, either. She just thought he reminded her a little of her brother. It wasn't a dumbstruck response similar to the one between Seleney & Daren. It didn't happen with anyone else that we see. Oh, there are love-at-first-sight(or is that lust-at-first-sight) happenings such as Skif and Nyara/Firesong and An'desha. Lady Thessaly: >>Korendil, Kero and Eldan dreamed of each other for TEN YEARS, and had conversations and sex in those dreams, and you think they WEREN'T lifebonded?!?!<<< Not necessarily. I think what Kero and Eldan have is arguably a love-bond. You don't have to be entertwined at the soul-level to share the kind of bond they do. Its sorta hard to explain. Its a connection, a need but not to the point that deprivation of the other person in the bond would destroy you. Its a rather specialized form of a friendship bond. The dreams are Eldan's idea. He can't get her into Valdemar. He can't leave. So, he uses his mindspeaking ability to join with her mentally since he can't physically. Its a conscious choice, not an unasked for connection that haunts them both. He did it on purpose(the sneaky devil). Again this is all my opinion. I hope I haven't offended anyone or stepped on any toes. That does it for me. I'm for bed. I'll catch up on everything else later but this topic wouldn't let me sleep. Goodnight.
