Although yes, bards are the masters of wit, > and I would gander they used it: I just finished one of McCaffrey's Harper books (the middle one). You must remember that there were no CD's, MTV, or band tours. The only intertainment was when a minstril, bard, or in this case, a harper came through. Their job was to play for their supper and any new song was shared with other muscians. Credit was given because there weren't any royalties - the muscian would probably never meet the writers of the songs he was playing and probably learned them fourth-hand, fifth-hand, or even, decades (hundreds of years) ago. The idea was to spread the song (with embellishments) as far as possible. However, does this mean that Hardorn will become part of Valdemar? I can't see Tremane giving up his command. His loyalty to the people he serves (and what makes him a good herald candidate) would seem to preclude his leaving them to take up residence in Valdemar. Fair winds and skies, --Gyrfalcon =======================msowers-+AT+-menger.eecs.stevens-tech.edu=================== Magic still exists. We have only to reach out and touch it, it is a part of the very fabric of the world. When our belief of magic completely dies this universe shall die. Because that magic; Hope, Dreams, Love, Beauty, Wonder, Belief, and Discovery are what make us a people. They are all part of a great Art whose workings are still a mystery but whose applications can be seen every day. If we ever lose the Art mankind shall not last the day. Let the magic that is in us roam free in our work, play, in each other, and most of all in ourselves. Let it roam free or it will die. ============================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jul 1996 13:28:58 -0400 (EDT) From: Jake To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Muppets and Casting / ANOTHER Apology Message-ID: <1.5.4.16.19960714131831.19a7deb4-+AT+-webspan.net> At 05:57 PM 7/12/96 Megan wrote: >On Fri, 12 Jul 1996, Jake wrote: >> Doddering old uncle? I still have to update my web page for it. Statler is the one with the moustache, and Waldorf is the other one. :P Don't get me started on muppets, it's bad enough I did the casting. Although, when I mean doddering, I don't mean half-asleep old men. Maybe doddering isn't the right word. Perhaps curmudgeony is. I'm like that, sometimes, and so are Statler and Waldorf. And whomever made the dirty old man comment... !! (Tangent: I need the addy for the Magewar / White Coconut list again.. *blush in shame* can someone post it?) For those new people here, the Cast List (which everyone worked on) is on my homepage, including (tie in) the MUPPET casting list for Misty's characters! I'm as much as a muppet nut as you, Megan, and it's on my page. Take a look (URL is in my .sig). I came up with a lot of them. It's not working. She's far too resistive, all she says is `Jake puns better.` "Then, Kevin, try something else." Catherine glared at her second-in-command. "Try reading her the pun cascade again. Or perhaps, maybe, just maybe, try reading her some Tolkien, or Eddings, or Something Else. Then switch back to Geis of the Gargoyle, the sudden change should break her. I promoted you because you could think, unlike thaat idiot Gerald." "What happened to him?" "We got into a mage war and he got nailed by a spell from that Thrice-damned-GRYPHON, three months later, his skin turned purple, he began singing in the most annoying voice, and went into public broadcasting as a Barney stand in." "What are we going to do with her after we're done?" "We send her back to the Mercedes-Lackey Mailing List, and have her feed us information on the various listmembers. I want Timmerman back. I don't know how he freed himself from the conditioning we had him under, but I want him back under control. Oh and send a crew to the UK, Ian slipped through the last group again." "And what about this Jake or this Cennydd?" "Kevin, I signed the order yesterday. There are capture teams on the way, they're armed with the latest pre-copy of the new Xanth book." "You're the boss, Catherine." Kevin turned back to the body of Lady Jaguar, reached over and clicked off the tape. She sighed in relief as he picked up a copy of The Belgariad, and began to read... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We now return this account back to it's original owner. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Jul 1996 13:38:36 -0400 From: Raingcats-+AT+-aol.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: No Subject Message-ID: <960712133835_432872829-+AT+-emout18.mail.aol.com> >>"O, Goddess of Forgiveness | Amoung the three levels of the world you are most needed | In the vastness of the Heavenly Spheres you reign from on high | You're coming is as the coming of a gentle mist | You're presence is as the presence of sweet glades and valleys | As little animals are made glad by the coming of the dawn, the world sings at your advent | Hear the prayer that I offer up to you | Grant that your gift fall upon me as the blessing of rain upon scorched earth"<< All right! That's Tarma talking to Elspeth. Apparently, Tarma (& Kethry I'm assuming) are dead. To prove that they are at least old is a message straight from Misty's keyboard during a discussion on the net that Jake posted to me (and I think he posted one to the list too) awhile ago: Shelley Kilts: ok, I have to punch out here soon anyway. How old are Tarma and Kethry in BY THE SWORD? Mercedes(Misty): Very old. Around 100, I disremember the exact age. They're preserved by magic, like the Hawkbrothers... so real infirmity sets in in a matter of weeks just before Check Out Time. They're OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD broads. And to help affirm that heralds are reincarnated: SysOp Marie: I was curious as to whether any particular of your... characters were closest to being your "alter ego" as it were if you know what I mean, GA. Mercedes(Misty): Okay, to really answer the question; Savil and Kero. Mostly Savil. Judy Bemis: In her human or companion guise? Mercedes(Misty): Judy<----yes. both. So there! Heralds are reincarnated!! Straight from Misty's mouth, erm, keyboard. :) ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 684 *********************************
