I was about to strangle Anthony after about the 3rd book of the series, and in agony after about the 8th or so. Someone mentioned [whats the most recent one out? i dont remember, i dont wanna know] to me the other day, and I nearly beat the poor guy senseless. Anthony has an annoying trait of prolonging a series well after it should be ended. The Incarnations of Immortality probably should have ended after the 3rd book, it definately should have stopped at the 5th, though I must admit I liked For Love of Evil, it still shoulda been stopped at the 5th. Apprentice-Adept should have been stopped after the 3rd book, the Mode series never shoulda been started. I think I'll stop there.. I'll be ranting all night if I dont. Perhaps pressure Dachai. In and of itself, I liked the Silver Gryphon, but it was not a good trilogy-ending book. Definately anti-climatic. White Gryphon was a decent book, but when I was reading it, I almost had the sensation of "history documentation", though that just have been my having a hard time getting into the book. Everyone is complaining about a lack of villan in Silver Gryphon, but other Misty books with no **Spotlight EVIL Dude** are not so bemoaned. Arrows Flight: Where is the villan? If anything it is Talia's own Gift that is the antagonist of the book. Specifically, her lack of control over it. Greetings, I know several witches, including some from the midwest that Misty knows, and I have NEVER known any of them _not_ to have personal shields up all the time. I have also known many non-witches who keep similar shields up. This is a basic practice of psychic self-defense. The weather is just plainly awful, thank you very much! Today we had the first sunshine after 3 weeks of rain! And there's only me poor, lone Mage to put things right. Stop it right now, do you hear me? <- very wide wicked evil grin ================================== From: Topaze Smoke : >Consequently, Lithuanian religion is one of the few really good views >into the old pagan religions of the slavic peoples. Cennydd, have you ever read Marija Gimbutas? I guess the folklore of Lithuania (I think she _was_ from there) had a strong influence on her work. >For that matter, many of Misty's names are real variants. Alberich means something like "rich Elf", IIRC, from alb + rihhi (both Old High German) >Tremane - Real surname, never heard it as a first name Wasn't it his surname? I always supposed it was. Who said it was a first name? Same with Orthallen. I don't think that was his first name. >Ulrich - Real name (germanic) another one I can translate offhand: it means "rich in inheritance/heritage" >Keenath - Oh, please, this one is just too obvious! =) ;) Btw, Valdemar means "famous ruler"! That fits, doesn't it? If anyone's interested, I can look up other names, too, just drop me a mail. ======================= From: khu286-+AT+-merle.acns.nwu.edu: >Actually, there are levels of helping. In the back of IIPTNIG PA describes how the book was done, i.e. Misty wrote it and PA edited it (and possibly rewrote?) afterwards. Now my question: Isn't that how the Bards Tale books were done, too? Misty lending her name and the co-author in fact writing the book? That would explain (at least to me) why there's absolutely no "Misty-feeling" about these books. It just didn't read as if she'd done it, it was so... uninspired. (Sorry, I can't even remember _which_ book I'm referring to, now). "NOw for something completely different..." PA's Xanth present series is not THAT bad, you just have to remember that the current books, unlike the first 2 or 3, is aimed at developing minds of youths (watch out for the future :) they are suppose to be juvinel (sp) and childish. besides liking that double triology(?) I enjoyed the series of Dragons' Gold, Sepents' Silver etc. Again though they stretched the believalbility factor. that's ok! this is fantasy, it doesn't have to be believable ! its very late, so i'll talk to you guyslater newby-- Drynnith **"friends help you move, real friends help you move bodies"** Mikhail the Armorer Tarkhan Khanate Bright Hawk Great Household of the Dark Horde we4-+AT+-widomaker.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jul 1996 13:36:25 -0500 (EST) From: Megan Smith To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Vampire Novels Message-ID: <199607151836.NAA01541-+AT+-zap.wwdc.com> >>Do you like vampire books?
