I'm trying to be very serious here. As I type this it is the evening of July 16th, early tomorrow it will be 22 years since my lifebonded died in my arms after being struck by a car. I nearly died several times over the next few years because I DIDN"T CARE what happended to me. Finally , thanks to three wonderful ladies (named Donna, June and Ruth) who, at different times, cared about me I learned that I could still love and eventually met my wife Shawn(13 years next week!) My point is the myth "there is only ONE true love for each of us" is a dangerous one. I'm trying to say that there can be another love, no matter how badly you have been hurt. You can live with the pain, in time it's less (altho I'm having my worst time in years tonite, not sure why) and yu can love again if you dare to. And even if not love think of all the beautiful sunsets/rises you'd miss if you were gone, heck if I'd died back then I never would have read a book by Misty!!!!!<-(yep) **end sopabox mode** Wind to Thy Wings, DAvid tiffany, gid ot fypos and hair shedder ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Jul 1996 23:31:20 +0000 From: myktshr-+AT+-ldd.net (miyako hirao) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: books/B-town/b-day/love/Pterry Message-ID: <199607170427.XAA06319-+AT+-cdale1.midwest.net> >My birthingday is Dec. 8, same's Mary Queen of Scots and -da Lizard King- >Jim Morrison. I have the same reaction. I hate to see people unhappy (except when they have irritated me *green*). But that is partly because I love people, in general. It is sort of like the Christian ethic of "love one another." Of course, most people are easy to love. It is only the really evil ones that it is hard to love. This is the most generic type of love. I think it sort of is the equivalent of "agape," but I have never really gotten a clear answer about what most people mean when they use the term, so I could be wrong. >>>I wouldn't go that far. People do things to piss you off, and the warmth in your heart that you're talking about isn't love when you're angry at someone.<<< No, no. That is part of the measure of love: do you still see the sun rise in their eyes, even when you are spitting mad with them? This is more the love you have for family and lovers (there are differences, of course). For example, this is why my sister and I could actually be having a fist-fight, and if an acquaintance tried to take sides and join in, we would both turn on the interloper. My sister lost a friend that way (she punched him when he started to attack me while my sis and I were fighting). The same thing happened the other way round, too. [with reference to the passage on pg. 26 of OBound] >>>what she *did* say was "mages use a diluted form of mind-magic to help them find their power-source" No. I disagree. She did not say that the talented was "diluted", she said it was not "fully trained" (p.25). A good analogy would be comparing someone who can bake a chicken without burning it to someone who can produce a perfect "poulet en demi-deuille." Both people are using the same 'talent', but in the latter case it is developed and trained to a much greater degree. Certainly, the implication is that the more proficient chef should be able to do a simple baked chicken also. >>>If I've got you right here, you're sort of saying "fish can swim and so can I, therefore I must be a fish"<<< Quite the opposite. I am saying "All fish can swim. I am a fish, therefore I can swim." or, to get back to the topic: "If you have the talent, you can do magic. Valdemarans have the talent, therefore they can do magic." Of course, the problem then is "Why don't they?" >>>originally pronounced your name "see-nid" rather than "Ken-nid"<<< Actually, both spellings are pronounced almost identically as /kE.n-+AT+-th/. IIRC, the Welsh /k/ is not aspirated and the the /E/ is pronuounced more centrally than the English sound, but these are very minor differences. >>>Cennydd, are you gay?<<< Yes, I am. Which is pretty fortunate considering that I came out to my parents and everyone else some time ago. If I weren't gay, that would have been a lot of angst and emotional turbulence for nothing. =) >>>What? Huh? What male/female/butch/femme relationship thing? (You can tell I've never been in a relationship...)<<< Well, you are probably familiar with it, since you have taken a Gender Studies course. This is the idea that "male=dominant" and "female=submissive" which dominated the mainstream ideology of gender and sex until very recently. In recent years, this limited dynamic has been replaced with a wider and more open range of different ways of relating within a partnership, but it still has a very large influence in the stereotypical thinking about gay and lesbian relationships (I cannot count the number of times that I have been asked "So, who's the man?" or "Which of you is the wife?"). Butch/femme is the same dynamic with different names and is more commonly used in Queer Theory to refer to gay and lesbian relationships. Currently, it is very un-PC to admit that such a dynamic even exists in g/l relationships. Not that that stops me. =) I know the worth of PC and will work with it up to the point where it starts to limit my ability to do objective research. -----EOM On Tue, 16 Jul 1996, Claris wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Beach/books/B-town/family >>>a group of people (yes, it's a shared-world, but it's done right, because:) who know and work with each other, and are connected to a group of artists (Tom Canty), writers, and musicians (Boiled in Lead) from the Minneapolis area.<<< This is the same group of talented people that produced the Liavek shared-world anthologies as well as launching the careers of Patricia Wrede, Steven Brust, and (IIRC) Caroline Stevermer. -----EOM On Tue, 16 Jul 1996, Rylissia wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Re: writing [snippage of some disturbing plot-lines =)] Rylissia, if it weren't for the fact that I have come up with some equally, and occasionally more, disturbing plot-lines in my time, I would be worried about you. On one of the songs, I am on a horse galloping throught fields, with some other songs, I'm on an old sailing ship, riding the waves, and feeling the ocean spray. I know, it's weird, but it really is ssooooo relaxing! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On 7-16 Esmerelda Wrote: >I think I voluteered to be the burmeese cat that sleeps for 23.5 hours a >day, either in the sun or on the boiler - whichever is warmest. I'm an INTJ too. I always knew that I was a little bit different than other people (reacted to authority differently, processed things differently, interpreted things differently, etc.) but it wasn't until my 20's that I took the test and found out why. I read the book "Please Understand Me" and the descriptions of my personality type fit me to a T. I really thought, since I saw things so differently, that there was something 'wrong' with me. Finding that book helped me realize that there wasn't anything 'wrong' - I just thought differently, and that there were other people out there like me. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jul 1996 01:32:09 -0400 (EDT) From: Master of Karma To: Misty Lackey List Subject: Braid: Summersong/"Thou" usage Message-ID: On Wed, 17 Jul 1996, Summersong wrote: BOM>>>Subject: Re: Braide: Bippy the Mime / Larry Dixon / Life bonds /etc >>>YOU SUCK! "Doth" is the 3rd person singular form; "dost" is 2nd person singular. I have to do this (I really don't like being this way with you, you know.), because one of my goals in life is to restore the fine old usage of the 2nd person singular pronoun to English. I'm currently working on a marker for the grave, and it helps me heal. I remember last summer on my mini missions program, SOAR! We took a personality style test, so we could learn how to work with each other well. It said I was, shoot, can't remember the word. Oh well, when they read the description of me, it was absolutely perfect, I was so amazed. Right down to things like never keeping track of time, it said this type might nit even own a watch (That's Me!) It's the personality where there's lots of procrastination, very eager to have everyone be happy, wants to please everybody, wants to fit in, optimistic, wants to party, and wants to do lots of interesting things. I'm better at some things now, a few years back, I was super caught up in the social scene, and was a carbon copy of my friends, but I'm better now, it's still a thing I strugle with. I had really low self esteem, it's getting better though, every once in a while though, I get super depressed. Okay, hopefully this message isn't as garbled as the last ones have been.
