With Low Magic, hedgewizards can pull energies straight from the earth, but it is season-dependent, ie it is very hard in Winter to pull energy from the earth since nature is asleep. Kethry talks about this at some point, noting that White Winds is eclectic and willing to do both High and Low Magic. I guess the assumption is that most schools only teach High Magic, unless you are straight Low Magic user. However, I'm confused on the difference between Master and Adept since on Oathbreaker's, Kethry takes the Adept test and there it is noted that until she became an Adept, she still had to use energy from inside herself, but that now that she was an adept, she would never have to use energy from inside herself again. I took this to mean that until she became an Adept in White Winds, she couldn't use ley lines or nodes. Finally, Ancar couldn't touch the ley lines in Hardorn. He was Master level. While Hulda had keyed the lines to herself, I was under the impression that he couldn't touch the lines even if she hadn't locked all the ley line power to herself since there is this mention of him trying to touch the lines and it knocking him for a loop. At that point, I think that only Tayledras trained mages could used nodes, at most anyone else could use was ley lines. However, that was many years back, historically. It could be that as the years rolled by, other schools again learned how to use nodes. Then again, IIRC, Hulda had > shielded the nodes from him after that abortive Gate spell. Anyone else? I don't Ancar could ever use ley lines. He could sense them, but besides the power being locked away from him, the lines were too powerful for him to control. Also, White Winds is an eclectic school. Thus, Kethry could have been using Low Magic to cast the jesto-vath. It seem that White Winds could combine both Low and High Magic to do interesting things, something which I haven't seen the Tayledras or any other of the Adepts do. If High Magic is using things such as Ley Lines and Nodes or calling elementals, then Low Magic could be the ability to use earth energy, anger energy etc. It isn't really ever said in the books, since as far as I can tell, except for the White Winds people, none of the other schooled mages (ie, not hedgewizards) use Low Magic at all. But that's also the aunt, because Jake feels like the kind of brother who lives to torture his sisters, in a funny way. ***************************** About how to pronounce Cennydd's name, I tried to teach myself Gaelic in high school and it didn't work, but I remember two things about pronunciation from it. The "C" is pronounced "k", "dd" is pronounced "th", and "gh" is pronouced "k", so claddagh--like the ring--is pronounced "klath ack" and Cennydd is pronounced Kenneth. Pretty cool, Cennydd. ****************** Windshadow, I'm sorry, but Cennydd is God/Master of Karma. Try again. *************** Lady Thessaly "My dad says I gotta live amongst soft, weak civilized Goddess of Nomenclature men, so's I can be a kind and just ruler...and learn how MKGC torture without leaving marks!" young Alex-to-be-the-Great Lady in Green in Epicurus the Sage ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jul 96 16:14:37 -0400 From: Korendil To: "Misty List" Subject: The Return of the Braid Message-ID: <9607172018.AA10213-+AT+-raptor.icubed.net> >>Hmm...I know some people I wish were unhappy... > >Nah, I don't think so, if you stopped to think about it and imagined it >them in that state for real. *wince* My awful imagination *does* stuff to >me. New Poll!! Message-ID: <13F5C03601-+AT+-medicine.dmed.iupui.edu> Hi All!! Okay, gang, I need your help. A few days ago, I was reading (quel surpise!) and someone I liked died, so of course, I had tears running down my face. And once again, my boyfriend threatened to take my book away from me (not that he had a chance). He really hates to see me cry! (It hurts him, and makes *him* cry.) I told him that I'm not the only person who cries while reading. And that's where all of you come in. Who else cries when they read, and who doesn't?? I'd appreciate it if y'all would let me know either way. E-mail me PRIVATELY at: tamarah-+AT+-medicine.dmed.iupui.edu I'm not trying to prove anything; responses either way are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to everyone who's willing to respond!
