Do bondbirds bleach? I don't remember Firesong's or Darkwind's bondbirds
losing their colour even though Firesong and Darkwind use node energy. The
bondbird that Darkwind's father had did not lose its colour either, IIRC.
Not so sure but I remember a few people saying they will bleach.

Somewhere in the Winds trilogy (probably Fate) I remember something about 
bondbirds bleaching.. I think Darkwind was talking about dyeing Vree or 
something... (Sorry not much help :))

Actually, we discussed that a bit...I think we decided there was at least
some contact, because of a section in WoFury (I s'pose) about them finding
some ~old~ Tayledras magic books...is that right? I think so :)
Plus, they had to have been fairly close while the Tayledras were cleaning
up Evendim, yeah?

SOW, cleaning up Evendim must have been one *helluva* job...probably all kinds
of unpleasant surprises waiting for them that were released in the
destruction....and I think we discussed that, too <g>

Ack, I'm constantly surprised that almost all of my friends IRL like almost
*totally* different music than me...I like classical, filk, and, of course,
Folk Rock <g>. I dislike nearly all modern music ::shrug::, and that's
all they listen to! Gah. It could be worse...at least its not rap or
country, I s'pose (no offense, all :) that's IMO, of course...). Is classical
really "old person" music? Hmmm...its certainly "older person" music <g>

I think the reason DKS is almost universally despised is this:

1. WoT novels are so long and detailed they would be almost impossible to
    draw in perfect detail
2. RJ fans (myself included) are some of the most anal re - um, er,
devoted fans in the fantasy field, and likely to jump on the smallest
mistake.

Thats my theory, anyways...

BTW, you'll have to excuse the way I'm acting, it comes from self-imposed
starvation mixed with ten cups a day of Doc Holiday...::shudder:: I'll get

Oh, also BTW, I did remember two (well, three) rather obvious references
to wolves...although I'm surprised there aren't more. The song "Threes"
has two references to them - it calls Warrl a wolf, and it has the line
about, "Three things never anger or you will not live for long: a wolf
with cubs, a man with power, and woman's sense of wrong." And of course,
on of the first four Shin'a'in clans was the "wolfbrothers," or whatever
that translates two, as we are reminded of in "Shin'a'in Warsong," and
is thus something I never should have missed. :P <g>

I don't know if this question has been thrashed to death, but I haven't
seen it mentioned before, so here goes.

Why White?  Baron Valdemar was escaping a war zone, and must've known
that white is a fairly noticeable colour, Kerowyn comments on the 
colour unfavorably, and Alberich won't wear it.  Why then would white
be chosen?  Heralds are supposed to be easily recognized, but wouldn't
any colour do the job if all the Heralds wore the same one?  It doesn't 
seem very practical to me.  Working uniforms in a darker shade, and
dress uniforms in white would make more sense.

IIRC (and at this hour of the morning, I ain't promisin' *nuttin'* (!))
Baron Valdemar chose the whhite uniform in part due to the colour of the
companions and in part due to the idea that under "normal" circumstances,
the herald would *want* to be recognized for what (s)he is...

Firesong's bondbird, Aya, the firebird, is pure white. Winds of Change (DAW
pbk. pg. 322) when Firesong makes his terrific entrance (I LOVED this whole
scene!)  "...he could never have achieved that complete bleaching of hair and
eyes and bird if he had not been controlling node-magic since he could
toddle..."

The Lilac Fairy returns to redecorating the bower in anticipation of company.
The new cobweb hammocks are up (very comfy!); the trees are full and shady,
with lots of branches just right for climbing and sitting on. And the new
shields are up, with special extra-strong white coconut repellent JUST IN
CASE.

Well not really fantasy, but I reccommend the Shadowrun MUSH 
shadowrun.dnaco.net 4201.   I practically live there.  And it is 
definitely admin friendly.  Being one of the admins, I know if the admins 
aren't friendly, our internal affairs wizard takes care of them.

Yes they do. Aya wouldn't 'cause he's already white. I know they mentioned it

I can't stand seeing animals in pain. Probably why I'm striving to become a

Well, hello.  Some of you probably remember me, but just from scanning
posts from the last day or two, I already see lotsa names I don't
recognize, so I thought I'd introduce myself again and update the rest
of you on my life over the last couple of months.
   My name is Heather, and I'm a 5'6" blonde from Columbia, MO (hiya,
you neighbors in Cape and Maryville).  I am a compulsive fantasy reader,
in my last year of studying for an undergrad degree in European history,
and the owner of an albino hamster named Vkandis.  (The week we got him,
there was a fire in our building.  It could have been coincidence.  But
we think they were unfaithful.) Vkandis and I live with my she'enedra
and her cat Ehlonna, who thinks Vkandis is probably prey, but is just a
little too dumb to figure out what she ought to do about that.
   Lately the financial situation has been miserable, and my love-life
is the typical wasteland.  On the other hand, I've been writing like a
thunderstorm on my novel, which is coming along really wonderfully.  It
has a new title, a new look, and a better ending, and I'm thrilled with
it.  My fanzine has been indefinitely suspended, since my she'enedra and
I have taken over primary responsibility for organizing a convention
here in town, to take place summer of '98, and that's a whomping lot of
responsibility.  And I've been having an especially spiritual summer,
and am currently feeling much more, how to say, in touch with life
lately.  More at home.
   So, hello to all of you who were around two months ago, if you are in
fact still around -- Cenn? Jag? Jake? Kerry?  You guys out there?  And
hello to all the new names I've already seen floating around -- Mishi
and Lilac Fairy and so forth.  Feel free to drop me a line and catch me
up on the magewar, the list, or life in general.
   Err, and for an Ob. Misty (do y'all still do Ob. Misty's?), Mark
Shepherd, her roommate and sometimes co-author, is a gay man.  Someone
was asking if there were any of those writing fantasy.  So is Robin
Wayne Bailey, who just came out with a new book called Shadowdance that
my she'enedra, who's straight but very cool, says is spiffy.  I plan to
read it when I get a chance; it's got lotsa Content.

In Vanyel's world, both Moondance's and Starwind's birds were bleached.

Agghhh!  Languages aren't "romantic"!  People are.  Languages are 
"Romance"!  As in French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Rhaeto-Romansch, 
Catalan, Occitan, Provencal, Nicois, and a bewildering variety of 
dialects.  However, almost all of the European languages are related, at 
some level.  Basque is the only independant that I can think of.  
Hungarian (Magyar) is an isolate and is a Finno-Ugric language, which should 
make it an Indo-Aryan, rather than Indo-European language (could be wrong 
about this Indo-Aryan thing, though).  

And as far as language comprehension goes, French and Spanish are 
different enough that they truly are mutually incomprehensible without 
some purposeful study, even to native speakers (not at all like 
Portuguese and Spanish).  Most native speakers can pick out a few 
cognates, but that isn't really enough to understand the language.  Of 
course, there are some people with a innate gift for language, for whom 
this cross-linguistic communication trick is a little easier. =)

It's not practical. But I guess since Companions are white, they wanted the
Heralds to match, and IMHO, white is a color of peace, so I think it would
be fit for peacekeepers.

Has anybody read the Palenoc/Paradane series by RWB? Three books: "Brothers
of the Dragon," "Flames of the Dragon", and "The Triumph of the Dragon." I
read the first two, and I LOVED THEM! 
I can't wait to read the last one.

Oops, in the joy of the moment, I forgot.  I am going to be taking a
