Just like to say that I'm in the middle of The Fortress of Frost and Fire, joint-written by Ru Emerson and Misty. It's been kinda boring so far. I'm halfway through the book and the main plot hasn't appeared there. Sheesh! Is this a bad collaboration or what? Are the rest of the stories that are connected with the Bard's tale that bad? Also, I like to ask if anyone has the lyrics for all the songs in Shadowstalker. I was intending to do one but if someone already has, I see no need make more work for myself. So please tell me. And how do you join the Ladies in Green? Just walk in and say hi? Just one more thing, are there any rules or obligatory introduction after joining the Mage-war mailing list? Thanx. Lady Thess: >>For droolworthy men who aren't good two-shoes in literature, . . . . or even (guilty secret) Raistlin from Dragonlance, who I've always liked secretly.<< Me too!!! He is so deliciously evil! ******* Lady Nightshadow: >>Do I have a defective copy or something? I do *not* see this!!!! All I see on the back of my _Storm Warning_ cover is some designs that are brown, green, pink, and some other colors with the design of a sun at the top. I do *not* see what you and Kimber described. Are there copies with different cover art?<< My copy has the Star-Eyed and her avatars on the back. Mine is a Daw hardback. Someone commented that the SFBC version doesn't have the same cover. Maybe you have the SFBC version or a later printing of the Daw hardback. That would explain the descrepancy. ******* Stormwind: >>Sorry everyone, I just lost a very dear pet, my hamster. I will probably shut off till next week. Forgive me for this. Mishi, maybe you want to give me some of your Hyperness and Overbubbliness, I am feeling very upset and I need to cheer up.<< I'm sorry about the loss of your hamster. {{{{{{{{Stormwind}}}}}} I hope you feel better soon. ******* Claris: >>But, everybody, I have something to say about Herald's Creed. My perception is, you're not *supposed* to like it. It's one of those alma mater/school anthem type songs. That's exactly what it sounds like, and you know everybody hates them.<< Well, actually, I loved my college anthem and like the high school one. I know this is totally off topic, sorry. I also like the national anthem. Maybe you just have to be an anthem type person. And no, I've never heard Herald's Creed. I'll have to see if I can't dig up the lyrics. ******* Queen Reesa: >>My mom would like us, with our collective genius, to compile a list of all the things that have so far been revealed that the Companion's can do, and then another list, of the things we *think* they can do. There. That ought to do something for awhile. I don't feel as bad now. (Can you tell that I just got back from vacation The grammar in this post is horrid.)<< First of all WELCOME BACK! I'm sorry your vacation wasn't great. Now what can Companions do? Well, they travel at incredible speeds for long hours using node energy, they can act as channels, they can aide their Chosen with power or anchoring, and they are capable of identifying possible future Heralds. That's all I can think off, at the moment. And no suspected things they can do at all. ******* Michele: >>Why White? Baron Valdemar was escaping a war zone, and must've known that white is a fairly noticeable colour, Kerowyn comments on the colour unfavorably, and Alberich won't wear it. Why then would white be chosen? Heralds are supposed to be easily recognized, but wouldn't any colour do the job if all the Heralds wore the same one? It doesn't seem very practical to me. Working uniforms in a darker shade, and dress uniforms in white would make more sense.<< White is symbolic. It has connotations, at least in western culture, associating it with purity. Also white is easier to spot than any other "color", probably because it reflects all the frequencys of light rather than just one or none. Another reason is that it is not usually used as an affiliation color. It helps the commoners to recognize the Herald immediately as an agent of the Monarch. There is no confusion that might be caused by colors that closely resemble those of a nearby Lord. And of course, it matches the Companions. ******* Mishi: You've been bouncing around so much, I'm having this uncontrollable desire to nominate you as the resident Tigger. But I'm not sure who to approach with my request. Lady Thess is this something you or Kimbada would handle or should I ask someone else? BTW, this is with the nicest intent possible. I always did love Tiggers. ******* Welcome back Herald Michal and others who are rejoining the list. Welcome to all you newcomers as well. Don't worry, we're all sane here! As to my definition of Christian: Love your God (whichever name you choose to call it by) with all your heart, your soul, your mind and your strength. Love your neighbor (ALL your neighbors, whether they believe what you do or not!) as you love yourself. All the rest falls into place. Personally, if everyone did that, without falling into symantics wars over the 9,000,000 names of God, and where people choose to bow their head to Truth, then the world would be a lot better place. - Sal %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% % Somebody should have labeled the future 'Some Assembly Required.' % % - Michael Garibaldi % %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jul 1996 02:21:17 -0400 (EDT) From: bouthiet-+AT+-husc.harvard.edu (Jeff) To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Ruthless/Thank you/Tayledras/religion/blurbs/mortality/benediction Message-ID: <199607300621.CAA01365-+AT+-pop2.fas.HARVARD.EDU> >As to my definition of Christian: > > Love your God (whichever name you choose to call it by) with all > your heart, your soul, your mind and your strength. > > Love your neighbor (ALL your neighbors, whether they believe > what you do or not!) as you love yourself. > > All the rest falls into place. Now that someone has finally come to a plausible definition of Christianity (as well as love, peace, and also many _other_ religions) I think we should draw the line. After all, isn't this a list to discuss Mercedes Lackey, her books, and some other peripherals? I applaud those who fervently stood up for love and peace, but please, can we get back on topic? Actually, it was my freshman year English class that got me reading fantasy. _A Wizard of Earthsea_ by Ursela K. Le Guin was one of the novels we read, and I was hooked. That summmer I started on Misty, and life was never the same. But I wish Misty had been on *my* reading list! :) I'm jealous! IIRC, Di talked about how she was a Guardian, and her granny was a Teacher, one who can recoginze Guardians and teach them what they need to know, but are not Guardians themselves. Also, I think she mentioned both of these traits run in her family tree. This is all from CotN, I believe. I just read that book not too long ago... A couple of people came back with this quote, but it still don't work. Not for me. Dirk is portrayed as totally non-menacing, no mystique, no cast-iron exterior - Albrecht is far more effective. Un-attractive, straw headed men, who get the giggles at totally inappropriate things, send the girl they lurve music scores, and refuse to face her and kiss her silly, drinking themselves sodden instead are **not** the of stuff mean and exciting heroes are made of. Well Doodit and Natoli 'courted', altho' I presume they've also reached and passed the initial bed stage, and what Elspeth and Thingy had was a sort of courtship before they bedded - okay they didn't go out to the movies, or hit the clubs, but they spent a period getting acquainted. Who else? Eerm, Skif and Nyara definitely bedded first, Keo and Whatsit bedded fairly early - yep, there ain't a lot of dating going on, least not among the busy and influential. - -=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Kerry > Hmmm, I surmise that "topped" has rather a different colloquial meaning > in the US than in Australia.
